Ok, I have civ3, ptw, and conquests (all 1.00). When I try to make my own mod and play it I get the genaric:

"this program has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconveniance..."

Butr this doesn't happen until I've modified it to a certain extent. This time I had the civs done and some of the techs done and I had just started on the units.

when I try to update to 1.22 the game does not rcegnize(sp) the CD, but that is something that i'm not going to solve unless i get a new copy.

1. For the first part, it's probably because you're using a program to edit Civ that isn't able to handle the palettes right. What are you editing with this program? I got the exact same problem when I was editing the units_32 with paint. I used GIMP and it worked fine. (www.gimp.org)

2. There are lots of problems with the game not recognizing the CD. From my personal opinion its not because of the editing (unless you're editing the game itself and not a scenario or mod) but because of an update error. Your best chance with that is to go to the Civ 3 technical support here in CFC.

Hope that helps you some.

I had all the graphics and stuff before and it worked, but now, after I deleted some original civ3 units and added some new ones it lets me play for about five minutes, then shuts down with "this program has encountered a problem..."

I have read a 30+ page thread about the CD error I'm having and it hasn't elped, so I'm not asking anyone to help me on that, I was just explaining why I had 1.00 instead of 1.22.

1. If it's doing that either, there was a problem with what you deleted or you have corrupted data. An example of a problem with what you deleted would be like if you delete a unit when there are still some on the ground it will cause the editor to crash, but I guess that's not really your problem. If you've got corrupted data then there is nothing you nor I can do and you must start from scratch. I did once here of something similar to this happen and the cause was spy ware. That's all I can think of. Of course Civ has been known to just freak out for no reason:spank: .

2. Again, about the CD error, that is diffidently from the patch. In this case my advise would be to take civ off your computer and then re-install. That should fix the problem. That should help.

Well, again, hoped that helped some.
