I posted a thread a while ago about fighters attacking helicopters. My question was if they did or not. Well, I did some tests, and apparently fighters can shoot down helicopters, and helicopters can fight back as well. I did two different runs, one with a normal fighter defending, and one with a jet figther defending. When I ran the helicopter past the regular fighter on Air superiority, the helicopter actually defeated the fighter and was left with half of it's health! My men were dropped with all of their health. When I ran it past a jet fighter on AS, the heli didn't stand a chance, and was quickly shot down. Men destroyed.

Anyways, I just wanted to clear this up, as their seemed to be some uncertainty in the earlier thread I posted as to whether this does actually occur, or what exactly does occur. :)

When I tested this several times, if a heli was intercepted and won, the men were never dropped off... I must test this again... :D

u know what bomber, your right. I could have sworn earlier they were dropped off. I tried it again several times with no avail. Also, I tried quite a few paratroops and none of them were recognized by the fighter.

Yeah the first time I saw a heli shoot down a fighter I thought I was seeing things because like everyone else I thought it couldn't happen.

The best though is when you see a prop driven bomber shoot down a jet.. har

Sadly... Paratroopers, Air Trade, and Airlifts cannot be intercepted.

That's not good. Remember in Civ2 the warning you'd receive trying to airlift past a city with enemy fighters stationed?

I don't remember if it was possible to paradrop in Civ2 when the enemy had a fighter in the area. Can anyone verify?

I pretty sure that in Civ2 you paradrops could not be intercepted. At least I don't remember any paradrops being intercepted!

Can you shoot down a fighter (not jet fighter, the earlier type for this example) that's performing air superiority? Do you perform a bombing run to trigger an attack. Does Veteran status help/aid in any way. Is it better to be the attacker or defender in this circumstance? And finally, can helicoptors perform this feat?

You can shoot down a fighter, as I earlier stated, even by a helicopter. it doesn't to seem to happen too much, but yes, military experience(e.g. veteran) does determine the outcome, along with other factors i'm not surea bout. I would think that the fighter would get some tactical advantage since it is on air superiority, but I am not sure about this.
