Updating Civ Error

I bought most of the DLCs during the sale -- but haven't played in a while also, because i've been out of the country. I left the computer to download everything overnight. When I returned, Civ won't open anymore.. It says the update was paused. If I click to resume, it becomes suspended then goes back to paused..

If I open Civ separately, it says that there was an error updating Civ -- an unspecified error.

I tried searching, whether the problem is steam related or civ-related, but haven't come up with a working solution.

While looking for the solution, I tried to verify the integrity of the game cache.. and even that doesn't work anymore. It gets stuck at 0%

So now.. have no clue as to how to proceed. Can anyone help? I'm having withdrawal symptoms already!!

Whenever something goes on sell and every one is taking advantage of it, download times are longer. You may try a different server under steam properties, or wait until the servers are less busy.

Try what I had to do. Rename your steamapps file, and download everything again.

Thanks for the reply.

But I don't think it's the update itself, because the update allegedly finished.

Also, what file in the SteamApps do I rename? All of it?
Sorry, not very techie :)

steamapps is a folder in the steam folder that holds the downloaded files for all the games you play on steam.

I assume that you have room on your hard drive to allow an extra folder containing 32+ Gig of space, depending on how many games you play under steam. I may be wrong in all this but you may want to check you available space once this is done. I would not suggest deleting the folder, but that may work also. People have removed steam itself and started over. It seems to me though that renaming it just leaves the files to sit there taking up space. I could be wrong though.

Deleting local content is supposed to do the same thing as renaming the folder, but maybe it does not "delete" everything thus causing corrupted files? In theory it is downloading everything again, but writing the files differently because they are now going to a "virgin" folder and not the original one.
