Upgrading Glitch in v1.29?

Here is the situation: My empire (Egypt) is mostly connected by roads, about 10 out of my 15 cities. The ten cities that are connected are connected to an iron resource. I have 1100 gold, more than enough to upgrade my spearmen. After discovering the necessary advance, I can upgrade TWO spearmen. TWO. I have iron, I have money, and yet when I go into the Military Advisor screen and right click them, they DON'T upgrade. When I activate them, the upgrade button isn't there. This happened in my last game with 1.29 as well, but not in any of my 1.21 games.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Do you have barracks in your cities?

Make sure you have barracks, or build Sun Tzu.

Whoops! Sorry about this wasted thread, I COMPLETEY forgot about that part of upgrading. Is there anyway to delete this thread, its seems totally worthless now...

I posted a thread concerning upgrading units at my home, ALL CIV. You can actually upgrade units without having barracks, connected cities, or Sun Tzu's war academy. It's a cool exploit.
