Are you suppose to be able to upgrade Moroi to Vampires?
The PDF manual says you can, the civilopedia entry text says you can under the right conditions but dosn't say what the conditions are.

you can upgrade moroi to vamps once you meet the reqs to build vamps and have the gold. you can have a vamp gift the vampire promotion to a moroi of level 4 or higher

I know how to give the vampire promotion to them - I was asking if it's still possible to upgrade them as I couldn't seem to.

The vampire promotion is given by "Gift Vampirism," spell that any unit with the vampire promotion can cast. It only works on living units, and normally requires the unit receiving this "gift" to be at least level 6 (moroi are an exception in that they can get it at level 4)

Although its usually not worth it to upgrade a moroi unless its level 6 or higher maybe because of the upgrade costs which are hard to pay at that time. A vamp starts with lvl 4 at least already when he gets one meal.

I am NOT asking about giving the vampirism promotion to moroi - I know how to do that.

Can you (and if so how?) upgrade the Moroi unit (Calabim replacement for axemen with strength 4) into vampire unit (Calabim replacement for Champion with strength 5)?

Both the pdf manual, and the civilopedia entry text suggests you should be able to.

Yes, you can. There is no level prerequisite (the level prereq is for the vampirism promotion) and you need the Governor's Manor built in the city where you want to upgrade your Moroi.

You upgrade them the same way you upgrade any other unit, by spending gold in a city that is capable of building the unit. In the case of a vampire, this means having a Governors Manor and the Feudalism tech, plus obviously enough gold..

Are you sure about the iron?
Either way it doesn't seem to be possible.

What version of the patch are you using? Prior to version .30b moroi could not upgrade to vampires. It was a bug. This was patched in .30b.

"25. The Moroi can now be upgraded to Vampires."

If that is not it then do what other people are suggesting - make sure the vampire is in a city that has a Governor's Mansion and make sure you have the right tech (Feudalism, i think?).

I can vouch for Moroi's being able to upgrade to Vamipires as i'm playing the Calabim in my current game (.30f) and have done so.

Ok, I've done a little digging

The Moroi section of the CIVUnitInfos.xml for patch f has this

Code:
<UnitClassUpgrades>
    <UnitClassUpgrade>
        <UnitClassUpgradeType>UNITCLASS_CHAMPION</UnitClassUpgradeType>
        <bUnitClassUpgrade>1</bUnitClassUpgrade>
    </UnitClassUpgrade>
</UnitClassUpgrades>

but patch g has this

Code:
<UnitClassUpgrades>
</UnitClassUpgrades>

Mine doesn't.... I swear I applied Patch G too. The readme says I did at least.

The Unit & Civ Reference Charts link in my sig gives you a PDF that has EVERYTHING from UnitInfos in it, without you having to dig through the XML (I did that this weekend for you).

For the love of... Whichever State Religion you are using... USE IT! ;)

I just deleted my fall from heaven directory, reinstalled the main mod file and then patch g. The resulting unit xml file now contains the correct moroi upgrade
data.
This is weird because in game I was playing I had some of patch g's new events and was able to build the City of a Thousand Slums.

The direct link in your signature doesn't work (possible because you updated to a new version without changing the link) - I was able to go and grab it from the thread it's posted in though.
