Upgrading Units

Can multiple units be upgraded? If yes how is it done?

Sure can. Locate one unit and instead of pressing 'U' to upgrade it, hold down shift and then press 'U'. All valid units of that type will be upgraded at once. Valid units are ones in a city with a barracks that has any necessary resources. You must also have enough cash on hand to upgrade them all.
