Urgent questions before modding my game

Hello.

I'm about to mod my Civ3 and have at least two questions:

1. Am I correct assuming I won't get into the hall of fame once the game is modded?
2. If I modify units A / D values, will the AI take the modification under consideration, or act as if the units hadn't been modded? For instance, I want to tone down DDs in comparison to BBs. Will the AI realize that BBs are now more cost-effective, and build more of them? And that it is no longer wise to attack a BB with a DD?

Thanks in advance. :)

1. Correct.
2. Well, as much as the AI ever has a clue. It'll use the modified versions about as well as the unmodified...which is to say, not the greatest. It'll still attack BBs with DDs. What else would it do with DDs? Odds are that it will build more BBs, but tests on the AI's "intelligence" regarding which units to pick to build are discouraging to say the least.

You will probably get better answers in the Creation and Customization forum, as they know a lot of stuff there.

Thanks for the fast answer, Arathorn. I'll have a look there.

That's right. The AI -will- know your DDs have been modded, and will compensate as well as it ever does. The AI doesn't build based on names, it builds based on attack and defense values, and other switches you set in the editor. The only thing that it is utterly clueless about (more than usual) is bombardment. If you change the bombardment values of the DDs and BBs, the AI will probably never notice.

As for the HOF, inasmuch as map size is one of the most important factors in score anyway, just make a spreadsheet with all your scores. That way you can compare your small map scores to each other, instead of losing them off the bottom of the HOF every time...

1. Depending on what you mod. If it's just the way stuff looks (no game changes, though it sounds like there will be), as long as the save file can be viewed by people without the mod, it should be fine.
2. The AI "knows" it's been modded.

One more thing: back up the original in case you want to play it normally.
