Here's a sofism:

The brain is the most important organ in the human body. Without it, all the bodily functions of the body would be inexistant. A human brain is about 5-6% of the body mass. But... the brain uses up more than a third of the resources of the body (food for thought). Let's continue our analogy and view the World as a human body, at a superior level, of course. Now, we know the USA, like the human brain, uses up about one third of the resources at the body/world's disposal. Also, the population of the United States is about 6% of the World's. Therefore, we conclude that we neet to relinquish controll of all bodily functions to the brain.

You really want to know how intelligent US people are?
ok, then just look at this and especially THIS. Alarming isn't it... More alarming than funny btw :(

To conclude with the CNN. If really their reporters are as intelligent as this in geography not knowing where Switzerland is, then I guess the troops will not find Irak before a good century ;)

hehehe, that's rather dumb :D

but... they did a poll out here in holland some time ago asking people if they could point out holland on a globe (u know, those earthlike beachballs)..
I don't recall the exact percentage of people who got it wrong, but beleve me, that was a rather scary result aswell..

There has been alot of scary results.... Most of them are set-ups/fake results or just somebody going around asking the dumbest people that can find an easy answer. It's like that one thing I saw that said 7% of people think elvis is still alive... He's dead.... It's a fact... It's all fake.

I think it is dangerous and stupid to stereotype all americans as stupid because of some _minor_ mistakes. I bet mistakes like this could be made in any country.

For example: our foreign minister managed to call the Gambian prime minister "Bongo from Congo" on live TV :D ... Not even GWB would have made a mistake like that!

Australia would be the penis/vagina, making New Zealand the a$$ (just kidding you Kiwis!)

Papua New Guinea would be the Tensor Facia Latae

You think that's bad; Only 86% of Americans in a National Geographic poll could point out the USA on a globe. The citizens of the USSR were not much better at 88%.

At least your country has the excuse of being tiny.

I was watching Gameshows' Funniest Moments on TV, and during clips a guy was going around asking people random questions.
One which was asked to a woman about 50:
"Who is on the Susan B. Anthony dollar?"
She replies: "Oh, that's a toughy, I don't know."

Another was asked to a teenage girl:
"Where is the Eiffel Tower?"
She answered, "Isn't it in New York? Yah, it's in New York."
Another he asked her:
"What is North of South Dakota?"
She didn't know the answer

The Host then asked a man about 20-25 another question,
"How many states are in the USA?"
The man said, "Uh, 47?"

God Americans, get a brain!

Stupidity has no nationality.
Damn illegal alien!
"Who is on the Susan B. Anthony dollar?"
"Where is the Eiffel Tower?"
"What is North of South Dakota?"
"How many states are in the USA?"
Yeah those questions are real judges of intelligence. If you shut someone inside a small room for all of their life and they know nothing about the outside world, does that make them stupid? Knowing how many states in the America is trivia. Just like knowing how many blades of grass the average garden has or who was number one in the second week of March 1967 are trivia. Who is to say that simply because someone doesn't know trivia that you consider important that they're stupid? Also it should be said that quiz show appearances can be very nervous occasions and nervous have a funny way of making you look stupid.

Nothing like a thread to bring up some well established preconceptions about Americans...

I have to say, those poll results do not show the stupidity, they only show the percentage of people who's been cut off from this world, either physically or psychologically, in result they seem "stupid" but really they are just inept.

EDIT: lol it looked like I replied to a thread that's been dead for a year... I just hope that my addition was good enough to be considered valuable.
