UserSettings.ini, Config.ini etc., the missing settings

Civ5 is missing a lot of options in game, which really annoys me. And by "annoy" I mean "facepalming because they I have to edit an ini file for things that should be in the UI.

%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini has quite a few things you used to be able to set in CivIV, directly from the UI no less.
Some of the highlights:

NoBasicHelp = 0 //Immediately set this to 1
SkipIntroVideo = 0 //Dito. If there's one thing that annoys me, it's obnoxious videos sucking time.
DisableAdvisorSpeech = 0 //Yes! That sounds like a good setting
AutoWorkersDontReplace = 0 //Yeah, not accessible from ingame either.

%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\config.ini
QuickCombat = 0 //yes. If only it worked in singleplayer.

It really begs the question why it seems to be impossible to set some of these from within the game. Especially things like skipping the intro video or automated workers leaving stuff alone are important settings.

I also opened a thread about this, earlier

Ah, you slipped through my forum search.

I'm definitely going to do some digging to find out what exactly some of not so obvious the settings do. However, I just got Civ5 a few hours ago, so excuse me while I try to make myself familiar with some of the changed concepts. :P

Does anyone know if AutoWorkersDontReplace means they won't clear forest. Because as it currently stands, automated workers give a huge penalty to Iroquois players.

You can find this one under advanced options when setting up a game. I have no idea why it needs to be enabled for each game instead of just having a global option.

And I'm sure they'll get around to adding more later... it's hardly game breaking that these options aren't there.

Aren't the endgame goals the same way? It seems like from one game to the next I still have to go to Advanced and tell it whether I want to allow the Space Race or Diplomatic victories.

I usually only leave "Domination" turned on. Diplomatic victories are for weenies :D

Config.ini has a few settings for that. As a test i checked whether modifying the defaults in that file changes anything, but at least setting GameSpeed to GAMESPEED_MARATHON didn't do anything. Sigh.
It mystifies me why changes made in the advanced settings for a new game aren't saved.

I'm waiting for the darn sdk to be released now. I could fix the build/research/construction imbalance via the new and improved xml files, but I'd like to do that in a mod, not by mangling game files.

They hid it well..

*shakes fist*

Many of these settings should be in the Options UI. In the interests of saving time, they did not include them in the beta. In the interests of getting the game out the door on time, they did not upgrade the beta options screen.

Like so many games these days, Civ 5 feels like a beta crammed hastily into a box and thrust out the door.

Hello

Would someone kindly reply to this thread to help us editing the .files line by line, with explanations?

Many thanks in advance.
