I have been advocating these two ideas since this forum was created (yes I have been lurking around this forum for a long time). But for some strange reasons, they were never taken seriously. I'll mention it again here.
I think its a waste that landtiles outside the city radius can not be used. I advocate that we be allowed to build a "village" with a worker. This village can only be build outside a city radius, but within the empire boarder. The function of the village is to extract resources (hammers/food/gold) from that landtiles on which it is located and supply it to a selected city of your choice.
There are several conditions that must be met. These conditions exist to prevent abuse of this feature.
First, a village can be built for every three heads in the city. In another word, upon founding a new city, I am allowed to have resources (hammers/food/gold) be transported to this new city from the village only if the city has a population of three. And the next time that another village can supply this city with resources is if it reaches a population of six. Then 9, 12, 15, and so on.
Second, a city can have at most...lets say....five villages supplying it with resources.
Third, villages must be connected by road or harbor to transport its resources to the targetted city.
Fourth, if a village was outside a city radius, but a new city was founded nearby whose city radius covers the landtile that the village is located, then the village automatically disappear. You do not get back the worker that was originally used to build the village.
If for whatever reasons you want to disband the village, you are allowed to do so. But you do not get back that worker originally used to build the village.
You are allowed to change the city to which the village is supplying its resources, assuming that this newly targetted city meets the above conditions (has the needed population, etc)
