Using Mokka's Cauldron

But you can build units in elohim cities (->spirit guide) and use them in the balseraph arena.

I found one way to use the cauldron.some may call it exploity XD
You beeline for octopus, and create an assylum, then you pump 3-4 lunatics and station them around your mokka's city (forest, hill, or forested hill across a river if avaliable) and wait for one of them to turn into a barbarian.
Your city should be garrisoned with captured wolves or lions which you keep moving in order not to heal. You also need a couple of sun mages nearby.
Once the unit turns into a barbarian start throwing wolves at him, and blind it with the sun mage. You'll end up with more golems than you want, you can then use any variety of captured fauna to pump them up to str 8 (that's what elephants are for).

If you don't like to go for octopus overlords, it can also work with mutation or werewolves, but it would take a bit more time.
Enjoy, and happy grafting.

Edit: The barbarian unit may be tempted to move away from the city, if that happens offer it a tiny morsel (weak wolf, worker...), and then blind it.

I'm not entirely sure how flesh golems work... I thought they were just 6 strength units and you could give promotions too...

Golems can't gain promotions in a normal way, but when you graft another unit on a flesh golem it gets all of that unit's promotions, except racial, channeling, divine, maybe some other too. Also, if the grafted unit is stronger than a golem then it's strength is increased by 1. So given enough time and resources you can create very strong units with sickening amounts of promotions.

Pyr0mancer's comment is what I am trying to dispel or confirm here, I've seen others say you can use the Sheaim Demon Alter with the cauldron to produce flesh golems, but I cannot get this to work. Is this a bug or a feature from a past version - or was it never true and people were just conjecturing?

I thought that the Demon Altar was for all AV civs, not just the Sheaim

It is, the poster may not play with AV on other civs however. :P

I find AV to be my religion of choice for Calabim too. And I'm not really sure AV is very good for Sheaim either. Go order, or first order and then empyrean. You don't need an evil religion to exploit high ac. And you are hell terrain immune if you are good. And ac is very easy to pump up.

Here's a thought, can the altar still be used in conjunction with the soul forge? (i.e. sacrafise unit and get production?)
