v1.52 chequerboard crash

I managed to run Civ 4 in 1.09, when I fiddled with my Nvidia settings. Before that the screen would fill up with graphic artifacts in a chequerboard pattern, my monitor would shut off a few seconds later, and then my computer would freeze.

Then my CRT-monitor died in a flash of sparkles, whilst playing Civ IV. So I went out and bought a TFT-monitor. The result was that no matter what I did, Civ IV crashed with the same chequerboard pattern. The same happened when 1.52 came out.

So I completely uninstalled Civ IV and updated with 1.52. Now everything ran fine except massive terrain tearing. Then I downloaded the newest Nvidia beta driver (82.12) and installed it. Of course I ran a reg cleaner before.

Now I'm once more back to the chequerboard crash after a few rounds. My Windows, BIOS and my motherboard is updated, I monitored GPU heat and it isn't a problem, other programs including BF2 and COD2 run fine, and I twice sent Dxdiags etc. to Firafix. Now I give up. I've spent a lot more time trying to get this game to work, than with any other piece of software I've ever had, and I even tried to be a good sport about it.

I get it when I turn on the memsaver. I turned it off and it went away.

The game BSODed on me for the first time last night. Hurray!!!!

Nope. It doesn't. It's just graphic gibberish. Then my computer (sometimes) reboots.

EoE post specs plz

I have sent DxDiag, log files etc. to Firaxis earlier on. Basically it's a P4 3GHz system with a 6800 GT card. I've checked for heat issues and the usual suspects. That's not it. In the tech forum there's a thread with a couple of users with the exact same problem.

Nope, Inno3d (not overclocked). But it does seem to be a 6800 GT issue.

Will its not every 6800 GT, I have that card and except for stuttering wonder movies everything works fine since 1.52. I have never seen any graphic problems like your describing on my system.

You're right of course. It's not every 6800 GT. It just seems to me, that a lot of the users with a similar problem are running those cards. Of course it might just be the human tendency to see patterns in things, that actually don't have any.
