All movies still crash my machine on BtS, even on Low Quality setting. In order to run BtS, I must do the following:

1) Edit the CivilizationIV.ini file to disable the Intro movie
2) Turn off All Movies using the option in the profile

All movies pre-BtS worked great.

My system specs are as follows:

HP Pavilion dv9000 Widescreen Entertainment PC (have tested on various resolutions, all fail)
1 GB RAM
Windows XP
nVidia GeForce Go 6150
Mobile AMD Sempron 1.8 GHz

I know others have experienced this problem as well, but I will leave it to them to post their system specs :)

Do you have the lastast driver? Since BTS 3.02(not in 3.091) my videos didn't crash, but htey simply didn't show(a multi-colored and messed up screen showed in place). I was lazy and waited for 3.13 to see if it fixed, and no it didn't even in the low quality.

I then downloaded the last driver to my GeForce, and guess what just happened?

Price of being lazy!

Apparently there was a new release, but it is very difficult to find from the nVidia website, which seems to only start at GeForce Go 7 series (and this computer is less than a year old...)

If you have this problem, then try this site to update your GeForce Go driver: http://www.driverheaven.net/windows.../134673-forceware-165-01-xp-english-only.html

It did work!

I may have just been on crack and not able to find the latest patch on the website... but regardless, the above link will still work.

Thanks for the tip; I thought I had already checked, but apparently not hard enough!

Uh, my geForce is 6800 XT and I found the lastast patch in the official website, which was also compatible with 7 and 8 series...

This happened to me as well using an Nvidia geforce 6150... I solved the issue this way...
I edited the .ini file to get into the game. Once in I changed the games standard resolution (in advanced->options->graphics) to match that of my computer.
saved the change, exited and restored the .ini file to its original value.

Now I can log into the game as normal, I am thinking that since Civ IV BTW defaults to 1024X768 you can probably do the same by simply changing your resolution to that before you log in for the first time. Then when you are about to log out, set the default resolution on the game to whatever size you normally keep your desktop at. Then change your desktop back to that size. It looks like the initial movie tries to take its resolution from the game as opposed to whatever resolution your desktop was at and has a seizure when they don't match. This last is theory only, but as mentioned you can fix the problem by simply editing the .ini file to not show the initial movie as well.

Note I am also on an HP pavilion so it is possible that the issue is with their special graphics drivers and not the game but...

Hope this helps...

i tried downloading from the link mentioned above. however, it did not seem to fix the intro movie and only occassionaly fixes the wonder movies. can you suggest anything? i have HP pavilion dv2000 with identical specs as ButSam's with the exception of an amd turion64X2 instead of his sempron. pls help. i have also tried several other drivers to no avail. i have presently uninstalled all the patches that i had tried and will wait patiently until i can get a definitive fix.

i really hope somebody would find a permanent fix for this or at the very least may this reach firaxis on behalf of all those with geforce go 6150 issues that they may adress it in their next patch.

To anyone who can offer an alternative fix, i would really appreciate it as i switched to this laptop for the sole reason of being able to play civ andits expansions and now i find i cant get the full experience for beyond the sword. tnx.
