Vanilla Civ Pitboss Newbie

I live in Seattle and am new to playing Civ4. I have the base game and BtS installed on my computer.

I am interested in starting a vanilla Civ Pitboss game to try out with 4 friends who recently got the base Civ4 game (but dont yet have BtS). And so I was wondering if there are any tricks to creating this vanilla Pitboss game if I already have BtS installed.

I was going to use my desktop computer to host the game and play too. I am hoping it will work. 1.8Ghz, 1gb RAM, 1.5Mbps dsl speed

Also I would love any advice general Pitboss setup. I found the pitboss.exe and have played around with it but there are many options in it I dont understand. What is the best way to get everyone emailed that it is their turn for example? Civstats?

Civstats works more consistently for email notification, because finding an ISP that will work for the in-pitboss SMTP service is hit-or-miss. Your desktop PC sounds good enough. And You might check the stickied pitboss threads for helpful how-tos.
