I have a few questions about vassal states.

Can a vassal state sell you out and trade with other nations in MP game? What about gifting units or gold? If they do will it show in relations screen or is there any extra insight you have to your vassal states activities with other nations?

Is there any tricks to force an end to it and double cross a player?

Does anyone know how the corruption is changed or how they calculate added corruption?

Do you get any tangible benefits beside the extra happy face and score increase?

Any interesting inormation on the subject would be appreciated.

I find it vassalising people down to 3 or 4 cities when theyre at similar tech level leaves me with a half decent war ally - even if they don't put forward good attacks themselves, the closer they are to the main front, the more likely they are to be soaking up enemy attacks, leaving my forces free to romp freely through enemy lands.

As for the first few questions, I haven't the foggiest. I suspect someone has written an article on vassals, somewhere.

In SP, AI vassals still trade with other civs, right? I don't know if you can gift a unit to someone you are at war with.

Sounds like you got played  Being a vassal protected him from direct attack by you, but does not seem to have protected you from indirect attacks by him.

Imagine an AI pulling that sort of a stunt...

Your vassal has to go to war with the same nations as you. So he would not be able to trade techs with enemies you are at war with. Also if he's at war he will eventually get the "mutual struggle" diplomatic bonus with you. You can also trade techs and sell him resources to boost your diplomacy with him. He also gets the "you attacked us" -3 diplomacy against the nation you attack and the friends of that nation give him a "you attacked our friend" minus. That can make it harder for him to trade with other AIs.

I find that it is possible to manipulate the diplomatic situation such that my vassals trade techs with me in preference to my rivals. Also since their armies help in my wars I don't mind making sure thay have an up to date military. A vassal is a major asset if you play it right.

I'm interested in the MP games aspect, with all human players. Lets say I gave my vassal all my techs for accepting vassal state agrement, but I am not at war with any nation. Since peace can he then give those techs away or sell them and double cross your agreement, causing you to loose your tech advantage?

I missed the MP part of your original post. So most of my comments above aren't useful to you as they apply to SP games.

I don't play MP and wasn't even aware a human could become a vassal in MP games. You certainly can't become a vassla of the AI in a SP game.

Well have you every notice if your vassal traded with another nation is SP game. The same rules probably apply.

There is nothing preventing a vassal from trading with other players in MP.

One thing I found odd about Vassels. Don't remember the two involved but let's say that Cyrus was a Vassel of Roosevelt for the sake of argument. Cyrus demanded that I stopped trading with....HIS MASTER. Uhhhh, wouldn't the master become quite angry by this?

You cannot gift a unit to someone you are at war with.

I didn't declare war against the world. I just wanted to try to consoladate power safely without allowing my tech advantage to be gifted away behind my back. And wondered if it were possible. But so far it seems vassal has litttle advantage in my situation, since you have to trust them, either way, to not make deals behind your back.

A vassal making moves behind your back? Unheard of :) On that note, why are France and Russia still UN security coucil. I guess nukes.

If you are not actually at war, besides giving your enemy information, your vassal could gift the enemy units (though you might notice open borders in the diplomacy screen) and give away gold (if he has currency).
