I have tried Venice only two times but both times I started on very nice spots on the coast. Does Venice have a great coast placement bias?

Venice has the best start bias in the game. They get their starting location before any other civ.

So, basically, yes. They did this because the placement of the capital is so super important for Venice, far more so than any other civ.

yes they do

Code:
<Civilization_Start_Along_Ocean>
<Row>
	<CivilizationType>CIVILIZATION_VENICE</CivilizationType>
	<StartAlongOcean>true</StartAlongOcean>
</Row>
</Civilization_Start_Along_Ocean>
<Civilization_Start_Place_First_Along_Ocean>
	<Row>
		<CivilizationType>CIVILIZATION_VENICE</CivilizationType>
		<PlaceFirst>true</PlaceFirst>
	</Row>
<Civilization_Start_Place_First_Along_Ocean>

The start location is mostly great, sometimes awesome.

I've got recurring problems on Archipelago/Huge with my start locations for Venice, so I avoid that map now.

They have this starting bias because this will be pretty much the thing that will determine whenever you win or lose.
Along with the placement of CS.

I've had to re-roll many land-locked Venice starts on Pangea or Continents maps. Also, when i start on the coast, it's often with no fresh water (thus no garden for GP generation) :mad:
