First, congrats for the new version. I'm still downloading it, my connection is slow for some days.

My question is, can I start playing 0.23 and then add the media mod pack later, with it taking effect in my game?

I'dve thought so - it'll just ignore the missing files in the meantime.

Yeap, you can add the media pack at any time, it won't mess up your saves or anything.

I don't suppose that this file is small enough to warrant downloading over dial-up, is it?

I think I'll just have to wait and download .24, since by then I'll probably be back at college and have faster internet than is commercially available. Until than I'll just have to play .22 and try to teach myself to mod it (until BtS Arrives and I have AoI)

Thanks for the answer. Yes the modpack is rather heavy, but I'm sure it is worth the weight!

So if I understand well, the focus of 0.23 was on graphic cleanup and media additions? What's the plan after? 0.24 or working on shadow with the BtS base?

I think .24 is only for BTS and will really only be a beta. I believe Kael said that .24 may even have less features then .23 due to the transition period to BTS.

I realize that, but I will be getting BtS soon (my sister ordered it from Amazon as a Christmas present. She plans to give me the disc early if I wrap the box for her and don't let my parent know I have it). I have mostly been testing my own changes to a Snarko's option/Sureshot Svaltafar combination modmod recently instead of playing the normal game, and don't really feel like giving some of them up or bothering to integrate them with .23. Also, I miss the panthers;)

0.24 will be Fire but for BtS, and probably will have a bunch of things cut from it, not "because of the transition" but because they're not deemed worth keeping. 0.23 is the last version for vanilla - once it's patched a few times that'll be it for vanilla players unless anyone carries on making modmods for vanilla (which, frankly, would be crazy given BtS' modular XML and other improvements).

I think Kael said somewhere that he doesn't want more music to be added because it makes the dl too large but I (and I suspect others) really love the music selection and would gladly download more of it to make the tracks less repetitive when you are playing for hours!

Would the additional download pack idea be possible for those who don't mind downloading more for the game (not that I can play while I'm holidaying)?

main file is 230 megs
media is 320.

Not dial-up friendly. :(

Yeap, thats why we split off the media pack. There are over 30 new songs in 0.23 with the media pack so I dont mind adding more music like I did when it was all one download.

Actually, he did add more songs through the Media Pack, check the list of changes in the Bug Thread for the website he drew them from.

Or do what I do...buy movie soundtracks to fill the void - or collect all your game musictracks into a single folder and let civ4 play that folder. ;)

And look at it this way - The new music tracks added to the media pack make this a must-have - and the nice thing is that there probably will not be another media pack for the Mod that is this large for a long time, so now is the time to get it.

The plan is to have movies in 2 versions - a slideshow embedded in the reg download, and videos as a separate download. Most of the must-have videos are in this current pack, so the future ones will be a much smaller download.

If you have dialup - I'd suggest starting the download before going to bed, and/or let it run while you are at work too.

That's hardly cheap, though. Better to wait, I'd say.
