Versioning Error

OOohkay I have a strange error. My game version is 3.03 and the integrity of the files has been checked with the Steam system, unfortunately no matter what I do I always get the following error when trying to join a multiplayer game:

"Warning: The version of you game files do not match our host's"

I've got a few ideas to try and fix it but I need some help from people who actually own the game. I'm guessing that the reason I'm getting the error is because the appropriate file is not located in the registry which tells the system that my version is correct. So would anyone care to tell me where EXACTLY in the registry the key is that holds the version so that I can duplicate everyone and see if that works?

Any other information on how to fix this or other thoughts would be nice. Right now I've been trying to contact 2K and Steam to help get this resolved by the wait time is in the hours

First of: Welcome to CFC
This seems to be a problem with steam, a quick forum search shows that you are not the only one with this problem, unfortunately I have not seen a fix for this:

BtS was released today on STEAM at around 1:45pm PST. Some people are having some problems.

I get the Error: 'This game is currently unavailable' when connecting through Steam

If your still having problems and running Windows Vista:

1. If you are logged in, please exit Steam and kill the Steam process.
2. Navigate to the Steam installation folder (C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\ by default) and right-click on the Steam.exe file
3. Select Run as administrator...

Multiplayer Compatibility Issues

Despite the STEAM release and retail having the same version number and patch status when conntecting to a retail host or vice versa you will show as running a MODDED version of Civ 4 BtS.

Wether or not anything can be done about the multiplayer compatibility I don't know but I'm not happy to say the least.

Thanks for the welcoming... I have actually been here since Civ2 but I never actually made an account because well... I never had anything to say ;P and I just kind of signed up now because I'm all out of options and as you pointed out there are no fixes to the problem. As for the excerpt you listed it is not actually my problem. I can connect to games and all, I just have a message that tells me that my version is incompatible and I then have a big *MOD* text next to my name, which of course freaks everyone out.
