Versions Question

I have Civ 3 Gold. I know this is pretty much equal to PTW 1.27f, right?

Is it possible for me to play VC 1.29f?

When I get C3C, all I have to do to play PTW 1.27f is to play with the Civ 3 Gold CD instead of the C3C CD, right?

I am going to be getting into some SC and GOTM games. I need to make sure I know what I can and can't join.

Civ3 = the original version of Civilization. The most recent patch is version 1.29f

PTW = Play The World: The first expansion pack. The most recent patch is version 1.27f

C3C = Conquests, the most recent expansion pack. The latest patch version is 1.22f.

Both PTW and C3C require that you have Civ3 installed first.

Civ3 Gold Edition is a pack that contains both Civ3 and PTW. I believe that it automatically installs the latest patch for each version.

C3C comes with PTW. PTW is at version 1.27f, however you need to download the latest patch for Conquests. Note: Patch 1.22f is not completely backwards-compatable with 1.15f. Therefore, you need to ensure that the patch you install is the one that is going to be used for the succession game.

No - you can play Civ3 as well.

Normal civ starts with Civilization3.exe
PTW Starts with Civilization3X.exe

I tried running Civilization3.exe yesterday and the only thing that happened was the Civ3 Gold logo popped up, then nothing else. I'm thinking that I can't play VC with the Gold Edition.

I have the C3 Gold CD in and when I click Civilization3.exe, it asks me for the Civilization 3 CD.

I found the same thing with C3C. When I tried to run Civilization3x.exe it ask for the PTW CD and would not accept the C3C CD for authentication.

Wow, an extra feature! Are you sure you're using the right exe?

What happens if you just put in the C3C disk?

If you install PTW from the C3C CD, you can use your C3C CD for authentication. The problem is, with Civ3 Gold, you can't uninstall PTW to reinstall it from the other CD.
