I just finished my first game - wow very little sleep boys!

I won via Space Victory (with 2 turns left), but I effectively ruled by way of massive Culture.

At any rate, I finished the game with having a SINGLE FIGHT!

Very unusual, or is it?

Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm not talking about a limited engagement or even skirmish - I'm talking about not a single unit engaged in battle with another Civ.

Come to think about it, I believe that even though there were several periods of economic embargos between Civs - NO WAR was ever declared between Civs (7 Civs in all including myself).

Anyways, thought I'd see if this has ever happened to anyone else (never happened to me in Civ III).

I've won a Culture Victory on Prince Mode without getting into a single fight.

I have yet to win on Monarch Mode without getting into a fight however. The AI feels alot more aggressive on that difficulty, {Probably because they're almost always stronger than me due to their head start.}

Did you at least skirmish with barbarians and wild animals? This is what I really love about Civ, the ability to win in so many different ways.

Do you recall if there were no wars between other Civs as well?

Yeah, I skirmished with the inevitable barbs and animals - but only a few times that I recall - didn't lose a SINGLE UNIT though!

I won a Space victory in 2005 without hearing a shot fired in anger. I went to war at one point (so that I could keep my good relationship with my neighbour), and built a war machine to move on the enemy, but it was over before I got there.

This was on Warlord, though. I bumped it up to Noble and am already squabbling with my neighbours >.<

Have finished two games now.. I won both with the space race. The first only had fighting with barbs and animals while the second one I started an early war to gain some resources .. In neither game did any other civ start a war with anyone.. very surprised.. enjoyed it immensely but miss the old days of war mongering... so this game I put in all the civs on a huge map... that should get the blood flowing at some point...still waiting to see how I will be notified of wars and such now that we don't have embassies...

Love the new trade advisor... don't yet see what my military advisor does yet though..

Love the graphics and the variable zoom..

I won a completely peaceful space victory too, against the Egyptians in a duel on a small map. It was a neat game because we started on nearby continents, but the third continent was out of galley range for both of us. Egypt actually beat me to the galleon and thus won the race for the third continent -- but I still managed to eke out a space win. Yep, no fighting. I'm not even sure I fought any barbarians. This was on Noble difficulty.

Currently in a game, though it is almost over, I only got in one war with Montezuma. He was across the ocean and had not yet founded Astronomy. He had no way to fight back. My neighbors and I were of the same religion, that I had founded. We were all lovable to each other. Never had even a skirmish against any of them. I'm really starting to see how powerful and important to find a religion before your neighbors and pass it on to them before they can find one. Religion really is a powerful tool to help subjugate your neighbors.

I play on emperor level. with 18 civs huge map. the civs fight alot among themselves. And poor roosevelt got sacked during the process. I was on a continent with japan and persia, I maintained good relation with all civs, so no one declared war on me. But all other civs had gone in war at least once. Alexander is in war mode 1/3 of times.

Heh, it happens. I remember one great SMAC(X) game that I won without fighting. Played the Cult of Planet, and won an economic victory! First and only time I managed that.

Trade routes rocked in SMAC. From what I've seen, they're just as important in Civ4. Very good thing, from my point of view.

I played a custom game and put myself on warlord but the AIs were on Noble. was I playing at a disadvantage? There seemed to be no way to change them to warlord. I'm asking in this thread because with those settings I was only about 20 turns into the game when Russia attacked me without even saying "screw you." Another problem I ran into was with artillery, four units of arty destroyed by a single unit of archers in a city...what the heck is that about? I remember in Civ II that once you got howitzers you could take down a city no problem. These super archers seem unrealistic to me.
