I figured that out, but then I could change the direction at will, weird.

EDIT: It starts in clockwise for me.

You mean of the above ascii game? It's Privateer : Ascii Sector, it's rather interesting remake of privateer still in early stages of development.

Is it a wing commander? It looks like something I played a long time ago, but for the life of me I can't remember. The first screen shot made me remember that I played it, for some reason I remember that APC looking thing on the bottom.

@King of Town : Nope not WC. Player is pilloting a sub in post nuclear war earth. Entire Earth suface has been destroyed and the deep has become last bastion of human civilization. That naturally does not stop humans from trying to kill each other
