I've civ 3 collectors edition
when I launch the program I get the "loading" window, few seconds later the screen becomes blank, and than I'm shifted back to windows with the resolution of the video card set to 1024X768 (even if the resolution before was different). The application bar remains in the initial position and size, and the program is blocked.
My computer is an old PII 350 with mainboard Asus P2B 320Mb ram and a Matrox G200 Agp video card. I have a monitor SONY CPD-100ES
I'm running Adaptec Direct CD V. 3.0.
I tried to load the program after having unloaded every resident program I have (such as anti virus etc..) except the Direct CD, and after having set the resolution to 1024X768. I tried to launch it after having downloaded the latest versions both of directx (9) and of my video card's driver. Of course I did not fix the problem.
I've discovered that the files on crash are: igl.dll sound.dll mss32.dll binkw32.dll and civilization3.exe.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks

What version of DirectX are you using? It sounds like an older system that may or may not support the latest DirectX software.

thank you for your reply
I'm using Direcx9. All the tests in Dxdiag work perfectly, included the 3d, except the test for directx8 (3d with hardware accelleration). All the others programs that require direcx 7 or 6 work without problems.
I know that civ3 requires DirectX8, but i've tried several drivers found on the net for my video card and no one of them works with the test for directx8.

I got a Toshiba Sattelite notebook with Win98 and I couldn't run Civ3. After installing, I try to run and screen becomes blank. I think it's same problem: Win98.

Go to the file Civilization3.ini or just search for it
when you open it, add "refresh=60" (without the quotes)

this should, maybe fix the problem, that we both had/have
