Just installed Civilization V for Mac, downloaded through Steam. I'm changing the settings to lower the resolution to make sure it runs fairly fast. The application accepts my new settings, but the video freezes after that. I can still move the mouse (and see it moving), the music is still playing, but the screen doesn't refresh (other than the mouse).
Thinking the computer is crashed, I do a hard reset with the power button. Computer restarts, but stops at the white screen with the Apple logo, with the little wheel going for a while, then stopping.
Out of the blue, I decide to try to connect to the computer through Screen Sharing with my Macbook Pro. Sure enough, it connects and I see my iMac login screen. I'm able to log in, open iTunes and listen to some music, etc...but the iMac is still showing the same white screen with the apple logo. So the iMac is running fine, just not displaying anything on the screen! (if you can call this running fine)
I tried resetting the SMC, no dice.
Followed HT1573 all the way to the last steps, entering the commands in terminal. No dice.
It seems to me that the game put the iMac in some strange resolution setting that is not supported. When I check the display resolution in the System Preferences, I can't get the regular 1900x1200 (or similar - can't quite remember).
I've got an email out to Aspyr tech support (they are the ones who ported Civ 5 from the PC version) to see if they have had this happen before. But I'm all out of ideas as to what to do to get my iMac to display again.
This is the second time this happens to me with this game - the last time around, after the game crashed and I restarted and only got the apple/white screen, I didn't realize that it was only a video issue and reinstalled the entire OS. I'd like to avoid that for this one, until Aspyr fixes that bug in their game.
If anyone has any idea on this, I'm all ears.
thanks in advance
