Hi!

I'm planning a suprise attack against my enemy. The first thing I want to do is to take out his resources so he can't build tanks. I have looked several times at his land but I can't find any oil. But how can I be sure of that he doesn't import oil from another nation? Is there a way to see what resources he has availble?

Without alluminium, oil and Uranium, you are pretty crippled, right?

Can you see the oil resource yourself? If you can and have your own oil then open trading negotiations with him, if your oil shows up as something tradeable then he doesn't have any.

It's not a surprise any longer :) . Now we all know... but won't tell ;)

I think you can also view what resources a player has in the Diplomacy / Resource screen. This way, you don't have to see the leader face to get the info (which may be good or bad, some people here seem eager to do whatever diplomacy is possible just to get an opportunity to meet Cathy  )

in the diplomacy screen you only see what resources he has that you don't

for the other way round you have to trade with him (at least get into the trade screen)

Ok, so if my oil doesn't shows up in the trade screen he is getting it from someone else. The question to ask then is: who is providing it? How can I find out who the supplier is? That one must be convinced or forced to stop trading. I can't go threaten the whole world now, could I?

Start by checking out the other civs the same way you checked your enemy out to see who else has access to oil. Then see what kind of relations they have with your target.
You should at least be able to narrow it down. but there's no guarantee you'll be able to convince them to stop trading, or that another civ won't start trading it to them.

Go to the Diplomacy/Resources screeen. All your resources appear. Click on your "target" and the row of your resources will shrink to show those you could trade to him. So if you have oil and it remains visible among the resource icons, he does not have it: if it disappears, he doesn't need yours. No contact needed.
The same idea works also for techs, but it's a bit more complex: if your row doesn't show an icon for a tech you have, the opposition may either (a) have it already, or (b) not yet be able to research that tech. To see which is the case, you'll have to look at the prerequisites to see if you can offer them; if you can, then it's case (b), otherwise (a).

I think you're taking this a liiiiitle too seriously.....just invade him you dont have to be paranoid if he has oil or not.
