It occurs to me that there is no anti-recon promotion. Of course, there has never been an anti-recon promotion. This wasn't an issue in vanilla, because recon units weren't at all prominent... but it is here, because we have a whole line of recon units. As such, for game balance reasons, it makes sense to include an anti-recon promotion... it puts recon units on the same level as every other unit, which can be countered so. I'd suggest Vigilance for it's name.

Thankfully they are getting nerfed on Friday.

dont think its enough tho, one less strength is not quite significant, they still come earlier than others units and with no requirements, and the hunter situation is the same... no one bothers researching archery in our games because longbowmen has a prohibitive tech cost and archers are the same strength as hunters but come from a tech that costs double that of hunters and requires the hunter tech as well.

right now the easiest way to play is just go the recon line, its guarranteed, safe, and impossible for enemies to specialize against.

I'd say a combination of less strength and a counter-promotion should be sufficient... after all, when faced with opponents who use vast amounts of recon units, such a thing is a real boon!

0.16 is coming out on Friday? Cool.

Really, I think that with the reduction in strength that they'll get in .016, they're pretty well balanced with other units of their tier. The only issue I'll have with them then is the fact that they come earlier, but we can deal with that later, I guess.

I think the counter promotions should get nerfed... Even city raider and garison take three promotion for full 120% bonus...

Why the hell can a unit specialize to become an anti melee, archery and mounted in just six levels... too much
I would recommend either 3 promotions with less than 100% combined bonus like 20-30-40, or 4 promotions which would sum to 120%, with like 25-30-35-40, but the last would give a 10% penalty to all others because of the specialization...

I mean who ever saw a military unit specialzing for everything... thats what we have the combat promotion for...

If your units DO train anti-everything, I note that such would take SEVEN levels (+1 for Combat 1). However, you'd be horribly vulnerable to Recon and Disciple units... which would suddenly become the bulk of my army.

Personally, I wouldn't bother specializing up vs Cavalry and Archers. Archers are useless offensively (making City Raider the better choice against Archer-fortified cities, assuming a mix of units), and Cavalry is rarely seen (barring Hippus). Melee is the only really powerful specialization, because everyone uses Melee... and such things are exactly what the promotion is intended to discourage.

Also, incidentally, nobody would ever take either of your nerfed combat schemes, particularly not the AI *coughworsethencombatevenvsspecializedunitcough*.

And nobody ever has seen such a thing, because nobody uses a strat like that.

shock 2 requires combat 3, and i think the other ones might require a higher combat.

as for hippus cavalry being seen, i wouldnt even recommend it for them, they make much better melee units since all their melee units start with combat 1 and commando if youre tasunke
