I am having a lot of problems with XP. The quick version is that for months I have been getting an error message that my pageFile.sys (paging file that determines the amount of virtual memory allocated) could not be created, so XP creates a really small one.
When I try to use the System tools to set a larger size and reboot, upon startup I get the same dialog box saying that my pageFile had issues.
I have looked all over the net - one solution was to give the root user access to the pageFile (I cannot see this file in Windows or even delete it or change its permissions in DOS) - good solution but the so-called 'Security' tab under the System tools I cannot find (no I didn't miss it, it isn't there!).
I am running XP, SP2 with every Windows update available to the Universe (just re-installed all this nonsense 2 days ago)
Does anyone know of a utility (preferably Freeware) that will allow me to access the damn file and set the permissions accordingly, or, alternatively, what the hell is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
