Vista Civ III

I currently play PTW 1.27f on my Vista OS. Thanks to many on this board just to get it up and running. Cured the save game bug and the space race bug and was quite happy. However recently I downloaded GOTM 117. I was blown away by how it performs thousands of times better than my " out of the box" version. I would love some tech help on how to Civ III perform that clean and fast. thx
