vista question...but not the usual

hi guys like the site!

Just installed smac and alien crossfire, plus the patch4 and and xp patch and it runs fine except for one thing. My cursor is surrounded by what i can only describe as a transparent square. Its incredibly annoying.

Im using a packard bell laptop with vista. I've only got a graphics chip (sis mirage) as opposed to a card but the comp can play Civ3 so i cant see why itd be a problem.

Also I had a look at the 'ini' file and it reads as this

Forgive the scattiness of this post but a) im tired and b) im not technical at all when it comes to computers.

ok.

Ive uninstalled everything and reinstalled just Classic Alpha centauri.

Added the DirectDraw=0 line to the ini file and the cursor problem's sorted....however now I appear to have two black margins along the bottom and right hand side of the screen. It could be coincidence but they seem the same size as the windows bar along the bottom and the bloody packard bell sidebar which came with my computer. Even when I close the sidebar I still have this problem though.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as i love this game

The line directdraw=0 is known to cause problems such as you describe in SMAC. However, it works fine in SMAX.
