I'm unable to mod Civilization 3 on my Vista computer because the Infogames Interactive and all subordinate folders seem permanently stuck on "Read-Only" mode, meaning I can't copy or modify any of its files.

When I uncheck the "Read-Only" box and hit "Apply", the computer takes a few minutes and tells me it's changing the attributes of every file and folder inside. Once it's finished, though, and I click OK to exit the Properties console, the entire folder becomes read-only again.

Has anyone had experience with this? It's not a matter of administrative privileges: the only profile this computer has is my own, the admin account.

Have you tried doing it from a command prompt?

attrib -r -s *.* may work but my memory is short, you'll have to look into the options

Try installing this registry hack. Then right-click your folder and click "Take Ownership," click allow to any UAC things. It's a good idea to threaten your computer, too, for good measure.

That's one way to do it.

You can also continue to run civ3 in the program files directory, just delete the mod first, then replace it with the updated mod. You basically do the modding outside of program files then copy it over, but delete the existing mod in program files first.

You can also do this with individual files but I do the entire mod to maintain consistency. Just make sure you delete the old file first then copy the new one over.
