anybody know how to fix the "components missing" error for Visual Studio isolated shell to run ModBuddy.
I have already tried a uninstall reinstall like about 5-6 times, with reboots. still no luck. I couldn't find any online for this error. Also, I don't want to uninstall previou versions of visual studio from my machine. is there an alternative? time for the civfanatic brilliance to shed some much needed light on this issue...please

worked here on the first try. if you've tried everything except not uninstalling the previous version, i'd say, try uninstalling it then reinstall. could be the last version you got locked some files preventing the new one to update correctly, or, refer to your current installed version and update it on it's own

Well I just Had the same problem. Turned out that some how (might have been wife Or kids IDK.) had changed the program compatibility for Steam from Win 7 to Vistas, which also changed the version of direct x compatibility from 11 to 9. So perhaps this has also happened to you, or maybe it is your direct x version needs updating. Could be worth checking out. If when you start Civ 5 & you are now only able to use dirext x 9 version, when previously you were able to use 10 & 11, this will be your problem.
best of luck with it.

i jumped through all the install-uninstall hoops. turns out if i tried to fire modbudy from within steam it throws a nasty component uninstalled error, but if i went to the steamapps folder directly and pulled out the modbuddy.exe it worked fine, starting with the prompt to set the system and user path for mods.

i am guessing this may be because i remember i did not install the visual shell isolated from steam but by directly going to microsoft website?? not sure of the reason why steam still thinks i don't have the components installed.

thought i'd share...

This was my problem too, for some reason Steam was set to Vista compatibility and Windows 7 wasn't happy with the x86 components installed. Once I took off compatibility, it was much happier.

This is a pain in the neck. I am having the same issue. It does not link to steam for some odd reason. I can only get it to work via steamapps in my (x86) files. How do you download the required app straight from steam itself? I keep getting directed to the visual studio 2010 website.
