volcano killed my worker!

i've never seen that happen before. i placed a city near a volcano and i saw the worker one turn and the next turn the volcano erupts and my worker was gone, with lava where my worker was!

i wanna turn off volcanoes!

You can mod your game so volcanoes never explode if that's what you want.

nah, i never experienced this before, so i didnt know a volcano could kill a worker. what about other units? does it kill them too?

Sure will. It'll also wipe out a city. Lots of us have seen AI civs wiped out by building their first city too near a volcano that erupts before they get a second city built.

So just keep your worker away from the immediate tiles surrounding the volcano. Simple. Or just don't plop your city down right next to one.

From what I've seen, you'll usually get a warning before a volcano erupts. You'll have enough time to move your workers out of adjacent squares.

well like i said this has never happened to me before so i didnt know what would happen so i didnt bother to really keep an eye on it. but i did see after it erupted that city had no worker, and i always have a worker for each city.

i didnt know it could wipe out a city! jeez, guess i've been lucky so far.

How far from a volcano do you have to build cities to be safe?

I find that two tiles to protect your city from destruction, but three if you want to protect the land around the city from pollution.
