Volcanoes

I had a similar thing happen with Vesuvius when I settled a city near it as Kupe, don't think it ever blew its top in the entire game.

@Hactar I've had a few games a Pachacuti where I've spawned in practically lowlands or just a field of lots of hills from time to time, not to mention in general having bad luck with finding volcanoes in general.

Speaking of which, has anybody found which map settings seem the best for getting a nice distribution of mountain chains and volcanoes? So far Fractal seems to do it the best for me. I'm a bit of a volcanology nerd so I love having as many of them near my cities as possible

Mine erupted so many times the middle terrace farm was up to 11 food by the end of the game. I lost count of how many times I had to repair my university

Yes, Fractal and new world gives you amazing mountain chains and lots of hills.

Seems like a great city to promote up Liang and park her there to protect from damage.
I was only on level2 climate and after an initial flurry it settled down as expected by the xml, seems early exploding volcanoes are best as they stabilise later.

Realistic or not, settling next to Vesuvius you generally expect some fireworks at least once during your playthrough given that natural wonders are permanently active and never go dormant.

One thing I've noticed though that really annoys me is the discrepancy in effort spent to research volcano names for some nations compared to the complete lack off for others. To give some context, all of the various volcano names for Sweden I had never even heard of a Swede but are in fact some cretaceous age eroded remnants of volcanic origin, whilst other nations that have more than a few younger volcanoes have 1 or 2 available names to them. For example China only has Mount Paektu, which is not even the mountain's name in China (Changbaishan) or Korea of which the two are Paektu again and Hallasan, China has numerous volcanic fields of various ages but mostly of geologically recent age and that is just the mainland only not including Taiwan where there are even more, whilst Korea has at least two more volcanoes, Ulleungdo and Ch'uga-ryong. It really doesn't take more than a 5 second google search on volcanoes <insert country> to find those..
