I would like to see if anybody is interested in making a map for a Diplomacy Game.

The map should be around the size of a standard large map (maybe bigger because we want a good amount of oceans). We would need it to follow general earth climate and have an "old world" and a "new world" (resources on either don't matter and should be spread out pretty evenly but also with certain resource areas that would result in diplomatic/military intrigue. A lot of islands would be nice as well, some small and some rather large. Also realistic bays, coasts, rivers, deserts, forests/jungles mountain chains and tundras. The idea would be to try and leave areas isolated and hard to get to from one another to create "culture pockets" if that makes any sense.

I'm not sure if this is the proper way to do this, but if anyone would like to volunteer to do it that would be nice. I don't really know how to make maps very well, so if you read this and don't feel up to it if you could explain the easiest/best way to make a map that would be helpful, I tried in WB but I don't really know where to begin as far as starting on the map. I tried a regular game and then changed all plots to oceans but it left a bunch of coasts around so I didn't know what to do from there.

Anyway, I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Capo, you're gonna trust a stranger to do maps? I've made some damn enjoyable maps for folks in the past and I'd be happy to do another one. Plus, if you're looking for a non-earth map I'm not interested in playing anyhow, so don't worry about me having an advantage in the game.

Heck in HOTW12 I made the map and later took over for you and didn't really remember much from the map anyhow, certainly not enough to get an advantage from.

Well, basically I was trying to get a map made that nobody knows about. And I was just going to put it with the mod, not necessarily for use in game (although this will probably be bad because people could just look at it). But I was going to put a few maps that I've used with the mod because I thought they were good.

I'm having trouble getting the map scripts that I am packaging with it to work properly for some reason.

Hmm, well like you said, if you just package it with the mod and don't say anything about it, people are gonna check it out on their own and they will be less valuable for games. Unless of course you want to package a world map, or Europe map in there which would be a great idea imho.

As for random map games though, the last two games did a good job with having a custom map maker (preferably someone not in the game) design the map. With the Pitboss the start locations were chosen randomly too, which is an improvement over the maps I made. (I still think I'm a better map maker than Pin, but that's not relevant). I think this method is sound though.
