I doubt that that would work. I designed a polling application like this myself and it should be a standard feature to check for both the IP and a cookie.

Why would someone want to vote for a game where you can kill a few bad guys (and citizens) and control one city? I want a game where I can slaughter hundreds of bad guys, thousands of citizens , and control the ENTIRE PLANET!

Hmm....if only I read about this when I was at the university...there are easily 100 computers there

(although they might all have the same external IP, or Gamespy might find it suspicious that 100 votes came from one IP-range in an hour )

Perhaps those on Dialup with a variable IP can vote multiple times?

And Firaxis owes me one, I voted for Civ3 after thinking about it for a few minutes. If it was GTAIII vs. Civ3 I would have voted GTAIII. but I like VC a bit less.

It doesnt affect it though. I just spent a few minutes trying it and the results only increase half the time so its prob just others voting.

Civ is 500 ahead! I think we may have this one

Looks like we're gonna advance to the Final Four! [dance] Looks like we're going up against a heavily favored Super Mario 3 though. Although, #2 seed Civ3 looks like it's gonna pull an upset against #1 GTA. Then it's off to #2 SMB3. This is shaping up to be a battle of the classics!

Here is my biased outcome. Realistically, I think SMB3 stands a good chance of winning.

Apparently he hasn't been paying attention. In Civ3 you can destroy a dozen civilizations.

Looks like the voting engine at least includes IP checking. Thus, voting more than once from the same PC is out, and voting from several PCs in the same LAN is probably out as well.

Voting from machines on different LANs is a whole different thing, though.

geesh, everyone on this board jumps on people when they post asking about game cheats- cheats that only affect their own little game, but you guys are all pretty eager to cheat this system it appears.

In any case, restricting voting by recording public IP means the cheating probably isn't significant (and I'd be surprised if GTA fans weren't doing roughly the same thing anyway).

Less than an hour to go, and Civ3 is up by 500!!
