wacky mouse graphic

Not sure if this is a Civ 4 problem, but it started soon after I installed the game. My mouse graphic(the little pointer) likes to come unhooked from where the mouse is pointing. The graphic stays in one spot but as I move the mouse around I can highlight things. The only thing I can do when this happens is save the game by trying to click the save game file blindly and reboot my computer. And when I exit the game, I have no mouse graphic at all. I don't know how to reset my mouse without rebooting. Thanks in advance. This has me baffled.

If this happens again, you can use:

[ctrl] + s

to activate the save menu

As far as the is causing it, I couldn't tell you for sure

Are you using a wireless mouse? a 'high end gaming' mouse?, or just the standard 'vanilla' mouse?

Does it ever correct its self if you wait?

Its a regular mouse that is plugged in the port next to the keyboard. I don't know if will reset because when it goes, its either when I load Civ 4 or in the middle of playing and I am a little miffed at it and reboot.

If the mouse gets crazy inside the program and that is the only place it does that, then your are running out of resources when playing CIV IV. CIV IV is a memory hog.

Please post make and model of your computer, system specs and a dx diag.

Gonna try turn off Norton Antivirus, see if helps.

Hi Butcher,

Norton is a pain in the royal arse.

Even if you go into msconfig and stop it in the startup programs, the pieces will still run. Only way to stop Norton all the way is to turn off all its services too.

If you dont know how to let me know and I can give you info on that.

Well, the patch is out, hope it fixes my mouse, but considering it went wacky loading another game, I might just be out of luck. I went and downloaded any updates Microsoft had. Hopefully all the patching will fix it. Thanks again for your help everyone.

Ok, I went to the microsoft website and checked for updates. My computer does them automatically, but there was a graphics one that was not listed as critical. I guess microsoft does not consider a working mouse to be critical.
