Wait for the patch before you buy.

What part of the industry? You could be a cleaner at Treyarch for all we know!

Why the personal insult? Just because he disagrees with your opinion doesn't make him a lesser being than you are.

Obviously if he cleans at Treyarch he would be in the cleaning service industry, not gaming industry. Think before you post.

It's a TBS. All TBS games use stat modifiers heavily because they can't rely on reactions like RTS or FPS (which..shockingly, also use STAT MODIFIERS as you put it).

I think what he meant is that in CIV 5 every decision you make adds a certain bonus to your empire with no negative effect, which means those decision you make become less weighty and meaningful.

So true. Entire enemy army turning around and showing you their backsides! Pikemen hammering apart your english rifle wielding guards after taking 0 casualties from 5 volleys! 1st rate ships of the line getting boarded by Sloops!

And why is it that we have to compare CIV 5 with the worst and be content with it?

"George W. Bush wasn't that bad, look at Hitler!!"

Why can't we compare CIV 5 with the best of the market (in terms of polish)? Such as Starcraft 2, Company of Heroes, etc?

Disable the intro video. I did it immediately after watching it once. You get a black screen for a few seconds while it loads on startup, but you won't have to watch any videos.

Thank you for that! My game was crashing about every 20 turns, hopefully this fixes it. Hell I even turned every graphics option to minimum and it still did it.

Now on to what OP said. I completely agree with you. Even KOTOR 2 was a lot more finished than this. Also one other thing I completely hate. You have to have the internet to even open up the game. Not everyone has wifi sadly, and there are much more comfortable places in my home that I would rather be Civing in. But yes CV needs a patch fast.

I'm enjoying this new civ more than the last. For many reasons it is superior.

The problem is the change of gameplay, most are not used to it or it is not their cup of tea.

PS* I own starcraft 2, comapny of heros etc and they are taking a backseat to civ5 right now.

i'm not saying there isn't a few bugs and glitches. Starcraft 2 had 20 million $ spent on it and stil made silly mistakes/bugs.

However, I am TOTALLY immersed and for the first time ever im having fun playing a LARGE map because the tedious tasks of managing cities has been made much easier and it is no longer "death stack = win".

I really like this game and I do agree that the next few patchs will probably address some issues.

People in the SC2 forums were also whining and moaning about SC2 being too different from SC1.

Wah wheres my lurkerrssssss

If you can't talk in depth about WHY you prefer the game, everyone knows you're a PR lurker.

Why when someone says, "I love Civ 5" or "I dislike Civ 5" should those opinions be treated like falsehoods unless they can justify it in some way?

Just because someone is unable to pin down their gut feelings to tangible design decisions doesn't somehow make their opinion incorrect. I agree that it's more helpful if they can but their opinions don't suddenly become false if they can't.

Hmm a guy with five posts who is a lifelong civ fan suddenly decides to pop us to ver kindly let us know the game sucks . . . . . makes me wonder.

I've only oplayed the demo, but I wasn't overly impressed.

Sure the combat seems to be an improvement, and the city states are a nice addition, but I found the amount of interesting choices, particularly when playing peacefully, severely limited. In essence, unless warring, I found the game boring.

I do however, understand that this is Civ V on release, and like Empire TW, like even Civ IV, large strategy games on release tend to be bug-ridden and in some cases broken. I've no doubt that after several patches and maybe even an expansion or two, Civ V will be a worthy game. Just now though, I agree with the OP - save your money and stick with the polished Civ IV. Come back in a year and check how things have progressed.

Tongue in cheek. Grow up. It's not the first time (Or close to the 100th) I've seen a forum post from a "member of the gaming industry". Although I did once get ragged on for a review I wrote for Jolt by an Activision QA tester.

I think what he meant is that in CIV 5 every decision you make adds a certain bonus to your empire with no negative effect, which means those decision you make become less weighty and meaningful.

Not really true. Taking one policy can invalidate another as a choice. I don't see how thats really any different to Civic choices. Arguably it's got greater impact.

And why is it that we have to compare CIV 5 with the worst and be content with it?

Empire Total War isn't "The Worst", it's an amazing game that BADLY needed a patch on release. Company of Heroes was great. True. I've played through it and both expansions. It had it's share of bugs, glitches and crashes. I worked in a LAN gaming center at University during it's release so believe me, it wasn't perfect either.

Btw, your funny bone is near your elbow. Try and find it, you might lighten up.

I think as far as crashes go, check the tech forum before making decisions. It appears to be related to certain hardware, not an overall crash bug. (I've heard talk of an nvidia conflict, I think...)

I also read about a bug where a unit during the early game would be promoted to something like a rifleman / infantry from ruins I believe and would subsequently own the entire map.
This isn't a bug, but I personally agree it shouldn't happen (it happens only when you get a second upgrade for the same unit from goody huts).
