Want to win on noble

:cool:I cannot beat this game on noble difficulty. I am always behind the other civs size-wise and also army-wise. I suck at diplomacy too because I can never get good deals from the AI civs and cannot get them to fight each other either. Any advice or help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I Play on Noble all the time. I usually win. There is three ways to win: Military domination, Economic or other

Military domination is the most fun. I kill every Civ by advancing quickly so I have cannons and cavalry while they still have Knights.

Economic is also fun. I just made a bunch of deals and never attacked anyone. I built workers-no military units. I actually won that game.

Other is space victory or other ways. Space victory is good and so are others.

Doesn't help

Hey i'm attempting to won a game in noble with automate production and governor switched ON ^^ :D
(which should help people to look at other areas while city build themselves. And it's more relax and fun to me. )

And It's Achievable! :D (without a early religion gold, even lost in early wonders, no axe-rush.)

These following things you should look at when have a easy cruise on auto-production & anto governor (not auto-worker, not auto-advices...etc)

- Workers. Work on useful tile, chop / pre-chop if nothing useful particular. (How many? auto-production will take care of that). (Auto-worker is a game killer.. you don't want that.)
Make cottage around some river side cities, especially good on flood plain. (ya.. CE, but with auto-production and governor on... and just try to win noble level.. you got me ? )

- Tech path. Think what you need at the moment. What will be the best time to activate certain resources or civs or units. Food, Economy or Military.

- Go for key Tech. Bronze Work, first to Great Library, Currency / Court Houses, first to Liberalism, and Rifleman. Those things are your early to mid objectives.

- City Placement. Trust youself, blue circle may not the best choice. You know one tile off coast is just bad. (equal 3 coast tile where you can't have lighthouse)

* Settlers may come out late in early era... but don't stop it when it starts building. Don't stop when there are still good resources.
When get advised, put one in the queue.
When there's no room, simply put one on idle, auto-production will know when to stop.

- Diplomat. You don't have to give them everything. But you can do 2 things.
a. Try to open border with a early religion neighbour, adopt their religion. (and got the trade route income.
b. If they request resources, give them, cancel after 10 turns. built relationship easily.

- Use Slavery. (you don't have to choose what to whip. auto-production does it for you, Amazing... )

- City Building queue. (ya. auto-production, but mind some followings )
a. Whenever it start "building research", change it to a military unit.
b. Auto-production won't build WONDERS. manual pick if city building research (again!?!), or a key wonders (eg Hanging Garden, Great Library, "Milo" statue, Forbidden City, Oxford University.. etc)
c. Let it whip, it doesn't whip like a pro, but it will speed up your production.

WAR Let it come. Wait for first few waves, destroy them, then turn to offensive mode. and enjoy civ4.

One thing very disappointing thou.... Auto-production will also GOLD RUSH without any notice :mad::mad:.... my treasury emptied eventually after switched to US ... any way to make them ask for financial approvals with auto-production ON ???

That's the game's way of punishing you for turning auto-production on. You should know better. :p

Does it automatically whip/draft too? (Though I suppose judging by your post you didn't use slavery. :mischief: )

In all seriousness though, don't turn on autoproduction ever, except at the very end of the game where the thing is basically won and your cities have nothing important to build. I mean, you can do it for a special challenge (RPC-style), but it will certainly not teach you how to play the game and the AI is really, really dumb. Or just completely random, hard to tell.

Yes. It whip, it whip, it whips 3~6 pop towards wonders. (didn't i said "USE SLAVERY" up there?
Didn't try draft thou, doesn't quite to a point that i have to draft (... and disaster if it can really draft..... )

For players learning to win noble.. i guess auto-production do a pretty good job. and equip what it takes to Prince and aboves.
Not just a challenge.. didn't have to use a lot of brain juice to formulate a win here. ;)

You actually can win economically. It is very hard though. I recommend building up an army and advancing in the techs fast so you can win.

Good ideas

Overwhelmed with information yet?
If you're in no rush try and improve one aspect of your game and then when you've mastered that, improve elsewhere.

Diplomacy is an easy one to start with. You can't please everyone and you shouldn't try. When you start and begin meeting the other civs, pay attention to who you meet and where they are. Try get involved in the dominant religion. Pick two friends and keep them happy. If the only hindu for example keeps badgering you, ignore their demands. Trying to placate them will annoy everyone else. If someone's in last place on the scoreboard and/or power graph you don't have to worry about keeping them friendly. Likewise, know your neighbours. Ultimately they will end up in your way expansionwise. If you're bordered by say Monte and Ghandi, it's a no brainer to buddy up to Ghandi and prepare for Monte's inevitable attack.
Ways to build relations.
1. Open borders.
2. Share a religion.
3. Run your buddy's favourite civic whilst he too is running it.
4. Trade excess resources for gold per turn.
5. Tech trade, occasionally in their favour.
6. If necessary, gift them the odd obsolete tech such as mysticism.
7. Get them involved in a war you're in. Bonus is temporary but worth it.
8. Keep some cash aside for a random event. There are a few that offer sudden relations boosts.
9. Go to war if they ask you. You don't actually have to do anything, their enemy will no doubt be busy enough fighting them in the first place.
10. If they ask you to cancel trade with someone who isn't your other diplomacy buddy then do so. That's a +1 bonus right there.

Once you can manage your diplomacy better it's time to move on. Size is expansion problems. Expand towards your neighbours asap, especially to grab key resources. The AI is gonna try get all the land it can and it's your priority to beat it to the prime spots. Use your workers to chop forests to get those earlier settlers out asap. If you run out of expansion room then it's time to war with a neighbour and take what they have.

And once you're satisfied that you can maintain good diplomatic relations and grow a decent sized empire it's time to consider your military standing. Forgo wonders you don't need in favour of units. Learn how to use your units. Use scouts to keep tabs on what your enemies are doing. Where are they units, what types are they, what do you have that will suffice to counter a possible attack, do they have weakly defended border cities that you could totally take out? Could you use your new found diplomacy skills to distract them away from your sneak attack whilst also building yet more relations points with an ally? Diplomacy plays a large part in war, I find that really good fun.

That's my little contribution. ^^ Bite off only what you can chew for now.

Farms and mines in production city.

Farms in Great Person Farm (Slavery can whip the needed city buildings)

Hybrid Capital

Cottages on the rest.

You actually can win economically. It is very hard though.

A good economy can be key to winning, but the way you are wording this it makes it sound like you mean there is an economic victory conidition, which is just flat out not true.

This can bee a key to winning. I know it is not a victory condition. I actually won on Diplomatic victory before.

What did it for me was switch from Quick game to Epic game. :D

After that noble was easy
