I am going to update the War Academy soon. Feel free to recommend some good strategy articles you think should be added to the Academy in this thread. :) I am mainly interested in adding articles that are 1 or more page in length.

There is a great demand for an "Ultimate Money Guide ".. Can someone write one? ;)

Well, that's really a tough one. Since there are so many sources of income, I don't see how anyone can really explain it all without writing a book. IMO, it is not about how much money we can make, but it's more about what we can do with the money that we already have.;)

Ultimate money cliff-notes:

Expand until you have two productive cores, one around your palace and one around your FP. Switch to democracy. Keep a small army and give in to all demands to avoid war.

Build hospital/marketplace/banks in all cities and set income to 100%. You make 700+ gold a turn on standard maps, more for bigger maps.

Build hospital/library/universite in all cities, set research to 100%, and get a tech lead. Every 20 turns, sell new techs to all civs for 700+ gold a turn on standard maps, more for bigger maps.

The problem I always have with this is that the AI never has enough money to pay me. Only God knows what they spend all of their money on.

tctatheel7, That is why i play most of my games with a full 16- player Huge map, you get loaded quick, and it just keeps coming because bigger map=more problems=more money=more wars=more fun. I usually can see myself getting close to 10000 gold before the industrial age, even though more than half I earned.

P.S Put my forum article in! 'Modern warfare', That would be cool and could help many, if you wish I can post it here too :D

P.S.S Ill also try to make a money guide, but i would post in my own thread.:)

What would be 1 page or more if there's no such thing as page increments while writing posts?

I have something that's more of a reference guide - how would posting that work?

I have an article too but face some backlash if it doesn't work in Monarch or Emperor - it's only been tested in chieftain.

This might be because you are playing a very low difficulty and your opponents are crippled by a production penalty. It also happens early in the game before everyone switches to republic/democracy.

Or more likely, there is an AI who is already getting rich selling techs to everyone. You have to sell a tech that no other civ knows to be sure of getting max money.

I've made some notes under the subject "Understanding CIV3 economy", but have been too busy to complete it.

I've broken the subject down to:
- money basics: city & empire level balance sheets
- city improvments: controlling maint cost
- spending on science
- money & strategy

Anyone interested in co-authoring ??

Yeah, BUT... The richer/larger nations may have a surprising per-turn income - try juicing them for per-turn money... I can easily get 300+ per turn on even standard sized maps by selling techs to 2-3 rich nations once in Industrial Age
