Uhm, I can't believe I'm asking this but I have to admit I'm not sure. Is it possible to build Great Wonders when mobilized for war? Specifically Is it possible to change production from Army to Universal Suffrage during war-time mobilization?

I have five turns till Army completion with four turns till discovery of Industrialization and I need to mobilize now, but I don't want to lose that Wonder.

Thanks in advance for your help.

in the last game i played i built the UN and the seti program during mobilization, so im thinking that should be true for any waonder

Okay Newbie narsqrd I gave you the benefit of my own doubt, but you were wrong. Four turns later now I'm stuck with Army(That ain't bad though) instead of Universal Suffrage. Oh well, at least I tried.

You cannot build a wonder during MOB. I think there is a few that count as military though, but I am not sure. I am sure that you will not be able to start most wonders.

narsqrd you probably began constructing SETI and UN before mobilizing. I know for sure anything that's already constructing when MOB starts still gets finished before new construction is restricted to units and war-time improvements.

Another thing to note: ALTHOUGH ARMY IS A MILITARY UNIT, ITS CITY'S TILES DON'T GET THE EXTRA SHIELD BONUS. WHY NOT? BUILDING AN ARMY FASTER WOULD BE A GOOD REASON TO MOBILIZE, IMO.... PERHAPS THIS CAN BE FIXED?

Any Thoughts?

Because technically it's not a military unit.
.
How do you use MOB? I've never used it.

Research Nationalism, go to domestic advisor, see under the government tab, there will be the option mobilization and it will be set at normal. click it and shift to war time. it gives a nice shield boost to any city producing a military unit

btw once you go war time you can switch to normalcy only after making peace

Do you get the production bonus on non-military improvements started before you change mobilization?

For instance if I'm currently building ToE can I change mobilization to war time does the ToE wonder city get the bonus? Or does it only effect military units?

There's a War Academy article on mobilization that can be found here. Even though it is an old article, most of the particulars are still correct.

There were some changes for C3C, though. One notable change is that when you mobilize, the game auto-switches all in-process construction of disallowed buildings (markets, universities, etc.) over to military units. I can't remember if the shields carry over or if they are lost permanently. Read the forum discussion of the article (link at bottom) for more info on the C3C changes.

Just FYI, the Universal Sufferage is a nearly useless wonder. It merely makes 1 war-weary citizen in each city either happy or content, can't remember which. For an 800 shield investment, this is a pittance. IMO the Universal Sufferage is only good as a pre-build for something else, such as the ToE. Building the army was better for you. :)

well sry for the misinformation, but i just tested mobilization in debug. you can build the UN, along with any other wonder with the militaristic check (so my seti program was a mix up). the articale does seem to be out of date, from my version i specifically found that you cant build universal suffrage. appearantly in vanilla and ptw suffrage was militaristic, but in conquests its not

Universal Suffrage is arguably the most useless wonder. It has a high shield cost and very little effect, so it is a huge waste.

Doesn't even generate much culture, either, if I recall correctly. (isn't it only like 2 cpt?)

Wow it's been a long time since I've mobilized. So Othniel you're saying if I'm two turns from finishing Bank when I MOB the extra shields will be lost and I'll get a cavalry Instead of a bank? I've never noticed this... but then again I rarely mobilize.

No, I don't think you lose the accumulated shields but your build will be auto-switched to something allowed under mobilization. I think the article says or implies that you lose the shields but I think it's wrong.

I'm trying to recall. I just mobilized in a recent game (I play C3C) and I had several builds going for city improvements such as factories. On either the turn I mobilized or the turn after, the game auto-switched all the disallowed builds over to unit builds. I don't think I lost any accumulated shields, though.

One things for sure, though, is that if you are building something that gets the mobilization shield bonus, such as a tank, and then switch that build to something that is allowed under mobilization but doesn't get the bonus shields, such as a bomber, then any bonus shields that were in your production box disappear.

It was interesting to me that in my game the builds were auto-switched over to Flak units when I had Tanks available to build. Not sure why the game preferred the artillery / AA type units instead of the mainstream tanks and infantry. Of course I just manually switched the builds to things I wanted more.
