Playing as Shoshone and am at war for quite some time with Poland, after they declared war on me. After some give and take and back and forth I eventually took two of their 5 cities and am marching towards two others. I decide to stop because Carthage on my southern border appears to be massing troops for a push against me, figuring Poland, being on the brink of collapse militarily, would jump at the chance for an armistice. Boy, was I ever wrong. They have a +43 war score somehow, even though 40% of their cities belong to me and I am closing in fast on another 40%, and they wouldn't even entertain the thought of peace, even though they are obviously losing and they were the ones that started the damn war in the first place. Can someone please explain this to me? I am not trying to be a smart ass, I just honestly don't understand this at all and would very much like to. I should note I am using the 7-7 update in this game only with compatible mods.

Positive war score means you are winning, whereas negative war score means they are winning. Are you sure you interpreted properly?

Moreover, sometimes the AI won't negotiate for peace even while losing. Notably, there is a waiting period after taking a city (to avoid peacing out immediately after capturing it, I assume). You'll have to wait a bit.

You can keep only a few units to defend against Poland and use the rest against Carthage, if anything.

Positive means you're winning, as @IcyAngel said.

And you can hover over the War Score for a detailed breakdown!

It said their score was 43. I assume that means they thought they were winning? While I realize I can probably defend myself against Carthage without hurting my war against Poland too much, I just thought it strange they wouldn't accept my peace overtures when seemingly losing so badly.

Positive number means you're winning while negative means you're losing. Though, positive score doesn't mean you've already won the war. By hovering over the war score, you could see how the AI sees the war. If they think they are winning, which means they're holding off your wave, they would not surredener.

It said their score was 43.
It is not their score. It is YOUR score against them.
You don't have access to their score against you (If I've understand correctly, it is not exaclty the opposite of your score, but it is usualy near to it)

I'm glad for this thread, I also thought it worked the other way. Primarily because the AI never accepts my peace overtures, positive score or not....the peace deal always seems to have to come from them....in my experience at least.
