You know, I've been thinking about something for awhile...

WARDRUMS...

Every civ has custom diplomacy music and/or town music (when at peace)... but whenever you go to war, you always hear the same set of "wardrums" for every civ, no matter if they're barbarian, european, african, asian, native american or whatever.

Yet, in the LH XML coding, there is indeed room for CUSTOM WAR MUSIC... yet all civs are the same.

Has anybody put together custom wardrum music for different civs? Even if it were no-more then an asian set, a european set, an african set and so-on, it would be better then the ONE set we have now...

I'm thinking something like the battle soundtrack from Kingdom of Heaven for Saladin's war drums... or something like that!?!?! Look-up some nice martial arts soundtracks for the asians... like battle scenes from Curse of the Golden Flower or something? Each civ could get it's own custom war music... heck... I spend more time listening to wardrums then I do to peaceful town music anyways.

Just about anything could be used... so long as it has a fairly "fast" pace soundtrack or a "battle-like" theme to it.

Has anyone done this yet... should someone (even myself) step forward and do this?

Any interest... or standard "everybody has them" wardrums is fine for everyone?

I have done this in some of my personal mods and scenarios. It shouldn't be too hard to get war songs for most the civs, if you wanted a complete collection. Lincoln could have "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again," and I can see Roosevelt with "Remember Pearl Harbor." Not quite the style you were talking about, but at least it's an improvement. There would be a lot of variation in the modern era, anyway.

I, for one, would be interested in a wardrum pack! :)

I have some music that could be used for modern Asian war drums, if you're interested in creating the mod.

EDIT : I also checked out my Civ III folders and there's tons of good stuff there.

I'm moving-forward with this... I've already made a mainland Asian wardrum set, based on Huang Jin Jia from the Curse of the Golden Flower Soundtrack (click on the Huang Jin Jia sample on this-link to get an idea of what I'm talking about... I have the full version for the wardrums).

Sounds good. :D How did you manage to get a full version? Well I suppose it's only 99c for that track, but I don't have a credit card. I think it's about perfect for Asia.

If you have Civ III conquests installed there's a nice track you could use for mesoamerican civs in conquests/sounds/build/mesoamerica/mesoamerican1.mp3. It starts off gentle but halfway through it gets really warlike, with drums, chanting and what sounds like thunder/lightning in places. I can upload it if you don't have it on hand.

Adding my vote for a kickass "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" track for Lincoln's wardrum theme.

Yeah... me too... as for the full version... let's just say "Torrent" is a wonderful thing.

I have the CivIII in a box somewhere... maybe the attic? Maybe you can upload it... that would probably be a lot easier then me going up in the attic.

Hmmm... I already have the Battle Hymn for Lincoln's theme music... I'm trying to do something a little different with the wardrums... dunno... I haven't touched the Caucasian Civs yet... been working on the Middle East, Asia and Africa. At the moment I'm not predicting 36 or more custom wardrums... for now, at least breaking them down into Asian/Middle East/African/Meso and the like will do... I may get more fancy/specialized later, but for now anything is better then ONE set for all civs.

I'd probably consider some sort of "Fife and Drum" for Americans (and/or Europeans)... a clean recording of course, this is just an example of my idea, not what I'd actually use.

Thanks... I'll see what I can do with it.
