Warlords 2.13 patch fails to install

Every time I enter the LAN game lobby, I get a question asking if I want to download and install patch version 2.13 for Warlords, and every time I say "yes please" the patch does not get installed.

Patching regular Civ worked like a charm, and patching Warlords to 2.13 on a PC worked fine too, but Warlords 2.13 on the Mac just never gets installed. It downloads and asks me to restart to finish the installation, but when I restart the game I get the same "there is a patch available" question again.

Maybe there is no 2.13 Warlords patch for Mac...? Couldn't spot it in the patches list... Anyone got a clue? I'd really like to play Warlords with the PC users by LAN, but I'd rather not make them reinstall Warlords to play without the patch

That's because there isn't a Warlords version 2.13 patch for Mac yet. We have to wait for Aspyr to produce it. Even then you will not be able to apply the patch from the in-game menus, as they go straight to the GameSpy site, and that only has the PC versions of the patches. You will need to watch out for an announcement of the 2.13 patch at Aspyr, or here.

You get it because the game software knows that your PC competitors have a later version, so it assumes you need that version too. The weird thing is that Aspyr *still* haven't fixed the Mac version so that it doesn't go looking on GameSpy for updates.

I'm going to make a guess that you are running OS X 10.5.x (Leopard). The Aspyr updater installers break in Leopard.

If this is your issue, then I've posted their recommended workround elsewhere in these and other forums. Copy the installer from the disk image to your desktop and run the copy.

Nope, I'm running the latest version of Tiger. Thanks for the advice, but it still comes up with the error message I posted in my previous reply.

What is the precise full path to your Warlords application?

Eg. Mine is /Applications/Civilization IV v1.74/Warlords/Civilization IV Warlords.app

I made a copy of my Civ4 directory to upgrade to 1.74 and renamed it - hence the non-standard folder name.

mines the same as yours, barring the custom folder name. It doesn't even give me a chance to try and select the folder for it to install to, just pops straight up with the error.

Hmm! I still have my original Civ4WarlordsMacRevB disk image and I just fired it up. It behaved fine up to and including the point where I could choose to change installation disks. I didn't go further, as I don't want to risk disturbing my installation. However, it's clearly getting further than yours.

It looks as though it's failing to read the receipt correctly from /Library/Receipts/. This records where your Warlords software is stored, and my guess is that this data is corrupt. It may be worth reinstalling Warlords from the CD to try to repair the Receipts record, and then trying the patch again.

Yeah I've re-installed it from CD (clean install as well as doing over the top of the old one) and it still doesn't like it >_<
