Warlords Not Starting **ongoing Issue**

I launch civ IV warlords and I get a brief welcome screen. when the screen pops up that is supposed to show the XML Init, it just flashes and disappears. My init.log looks identical to the one Carnelli53 posted. My version of Warlords is a store bought CD, but it was not patched. Even after downloading the patch 2.08 and updating BIOS, chipset, audio, and video drivers, nothing works.

I should also add that I'm running on a latitude d820. The video card appears the weakest part of the system, but exceeds the requirements. It is an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110m. The sound card is a SigmaTel Audio.

I think the problem is with my DVDrom. On a suggestion I took the shady route and installed a different main executable. Someone gave me an altered executable that doesn't go to the CD for loading. I simply backed up my original installed executable and dropped in the hacked version. It works just fine. I'm guessing that when the system attempts to access the DVDrom for validation from the Civ CD, it dies. Now I have a dilemma. I can only play with the hacked version, othewise I wasted my money. The Device Manager lists my DVD as an HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8084N. I've already upgraded the drivers.
