Was he cheating???

In mp when a player quits, should his civ be wiped out instead of AI taking over?

I played a four player game (not g&k) where one player was so far ahead in science he must have been cheating.

I asked him how he did it, he said by building wonders. But I got the Great Library and immediatley after, the national college, still i had no chance of keeping up.

So then, which wonders, if not Great Library (Hagia, for great scientist, sure) but he hadn't even built the Porcelein Tower. Yet, another player messaged me that he had riflemen (when i was still in medieveval time, with gl and national college).

He also would not tell me his science count, because it was a secret. He was playing as arab (not even babylonian).

Eventually the game crashed when there were only us left, and i never got closure.

What was his population compared to yours? Did he have education or astronomy yet? People who get a tech lead tend to pull even farther ahead over time. Just because you got the GL and the NC does not automatically mean that you will have the tech lead. The GL is really worth 1 free GS used early ~200 beakers plus 3 beakers a turn (2 population when there is a library).

There really aren't enough details to figure out the game - when you say medieval for instance, that could be turn 25 or turn 100 and you could still be in the medieval era (beginning versus end of it).

He did have a bigger population than me, still i got the feeling that something wasn't "right". I got gl and took philosophy straight to build the national college, then i went for machinery, instead of education. Sure, he could have had education and observatory, but then he also had riflemen (and tanks) which are on the other side of the tech tree. And he named his secret strategy "wonders". It was in the 700's AD and he had a tank.

The map was tiny.

When I build a national college before even a second city, I expept a little but of tech advantage in the early game. I should have made more notes about stats and demographics. He didnt disclose his secret strategy.

I've had civs with every city next to a mountain and not have that kind of progress. I dont know if he had reserach agreements.

Or maybe he just beat me fair and square. Maybe he was pumping out GS, climbed the enlightement civic, had observatories. But still to climb BOTH ends of the tech tree. i just dont know...

I once got artillery under 115(before 1200 AD) turns with Aztecs and without GL and PT. I usually need one or the other to ensure below 120.

National College beeline with one city is not as good for science as a quick 4 city spread/build up. (pre gk)

I played LOT of people whom i d call "likely to cheat" but noone did so I m pretty much 100% sure that there are no cheats.

and about tech lead - maybe you just suck? Moderator Action: You really could have said this in a nicer way.

There are people who beat deity on regularer basis and others who cant imagine how to beat imperator.

As some1 else mentioned - rushing gl-->nc is NOT the best way to get a huge medium term science

Hi, next time do a screen shot - looking at things like year, population, demographics, etc I can get a better feeling of what is going on.

If you had only 1 or 2 cities, it doesn't matter what civs/wonders you get, you will eventually get destroyed in science by a good player who goes 4+ big cities (could Korea be an exception for 1-2 cities?) Yesterday I played vs Babylon in a duel, he went 1 city for most the game, and with my 4 cities (built them ASAP) I beat him in science despite him having academies planted everywhere like farms.

I don't, and we don't know each other. While building gl and nc other civs expanded around me (i was spawned on the middle of a tiny pangea map). what remained was a defensive stance (great wall, go for crossbows) i managed to break out and crush an opponent with 4-5 cities, but the fourth player (whom i susspected of cheating) was too far ahead in science by then. we never declaired war (the game crashed).

Yes I should have taken screen pics for future reference, thanks for the tip!

To bad to hear that a bug(quitter)destroys game!

Feel free to visit NQ(NOQUITTERS) at steam..800 players that dont quitt civ games unless losing capital!

Want a vote on the poll? try not asking loaded questions with all your words in my mouth.

as for quitting, i understand that if you know your going to lose, there isn't a point in hanging around for the inevitable - i don't play MP often but i know when it's time to quit and spend my limited resource (time) on a different game where i might have more fun - sorry if that "breaks a game" that i wasn't going to win anyway.

But when you reach that point, you should notify the other players of concession instead of just popping out of the game - once, someone ran horsemen up to my borders, pillaged 2 improvements, ate 2 workers and retreated his new workers so i notified of my consession and he told me he wouldn't mess with me again if i stayed, so i stayed played a hundred or so more turns when my other neighbor rolled up his force at my borders.

I had 2 options: spend the time hitting end turn until his era-ahead units kill me, or quit. If i quit, i have 2 options - i can offer cities and units to a different player to throw the game or i can let my attacker have my spoils. That much depends on my mood, if the ONLY fun i will get in the game is giving your enemy my units, gold and cities before my timer runs out, then i will have some selfish fun. XD

When people play the same civs over and over they really know how to work it, Arabia with the Petra and a lot of river desert tiles, with trading posts can really boost the science score. When you did an F9 how was his literacy rate compared to yours as the game progressed? What social policies did he have? I keep learning new tricks every day, G and K is so different from civ 5 there is no comparison, just a lot of trial and error. Arabia is imo one of the stronger civs if you get the right tiles.
