Ok, not THAT bad, but we are, IMO dead average, which is a bad thing.

Whe are doing ok commerce and production (edit: 1st in production!), bad in land area, good in population, and good in army size (high population with a long military service--people serve for 18 and live only 20) ;)

However, you'll notce we have a low life expectancy, which implies many others have granaries already.

Our captiol may be #1, but thats cuz nobody has any cultulre and we have yet to get enough settlers.

On a plus note, we are doing well in desease, which could imply everyone is doing well, or maybe some of them hacve jungle (or wheated floodplains :()

However, I would doubt they have wheated floodplains as EVERYONE's family size is 1, which means nobody has a great average food surplus of 2 per city. (or maybe 3... however no one averages 4  )

It's so early in the game, it's prepature to do comparisons....

Agreed, we really don't need to worry about these demographics now, or ever.

Though, it is nice to see Shen Ling up there over 'poly. ;)

I completely disagree. Octavian, are you familiar with Bamsppedy's article describing the demograhpics?

Edit:this was supposed to be an edit of the first post, NOT a quote

I think some of the demographics are important in the early game.

Population & land area for lots of well developed cities.
Income can also mean something. It seems that some teams may be putting off building improvements in order to maximise research in the early game.
GNP is I think your gross trade after corruption.

Other wise, quite alot of it is meaningless. Approval Rating and family size are especially useless.

GNP and Manufactored Goods are actually BEFORE corruption.

The one I find VERY important is life expectancy: since we are 5th, then 4 people have at least 1 granery each.

We aren't doing too well in some of the categories, but the granary we are building should help. Lets also remember some civ's may be all alone and can build peacefuly, but we are surrounded and have decided to take a military path to ensure our survival.

I was giving it some thought, and here's something I came up with:

Our sudden lead of shields 1st has to do with the fact that Shen Ling has no food. The second is that our nearest competiter has just built a settler, thus is about to be even greater than they already are.

At this stage of the game, I'd say anything we rated 1st in, such as Mfg Goods, we are tied for first place in. What's scary is that we are 3rd in Population, but 6th in Land Area. This means we haven't pumped out as many Settlers as we've needed to, but our cities are not as big as they should be.

Luckily, we did the wise thing of building granaries, so we are primed to expand with rapid recovery. As we build cities, it will take a while for our pop rating to level out, but hopefully we will climb to the top when it does. This will also increase several other catagories naturally.

I can't understand why our productivity is 6th, tho. Have we wasted any shields yet?

And approval rating can be very improtant in the game and how your options and development unfold. Unfortunately, being popular with the AI is a good thing. Trust me, the humans on the other teams didn't vote us number 3 in approval ratings.

All in all, I'd say after we expand, these demographics will climb steadily. Fear not.

I'm very worried about this too.

Cyc, at least 4 other teams already HAVE granaries, as we are 5th in life expectancy.

Porductivty means we are lacking in food an commerce (as shields are #1)

Approval rating is based on happy citizens: happy citizens=1, content=0.5 unhappy=0
Approval rating is NOT what other civs think of us

Let's hope so.

Everyone, read this thread please http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37033

:) I'm sorry, Hygro. When I said AI, I meant the Game itself, not the other AI tribes (although one does represent the other). Citizens are made happy or unhappy by the actions you take. The Game shows the results in the form of citizen moods. This is just as evident in war weariness as in building Temples or appropriate Wonders. The Approval Rating can of course be traced to the happiness of your people, that's how the Game shows the user level result. But the Approval Rating goes beyond improvements and luxuries, and can show world opinion through the eyes of the Game. I believe this can affect Game controlled factors.

I've read your article (Bamspeedy's) and it looks like good work, although he was corrected several times in different areas. I don't necessarily agree with a couple of areas but that's just me.
