Crouching Tiger at the least apparently has the ability to increase your cities range attack more. So it goes to the Egypt Horse Archers, since it doesn't really replace the heavy chariot.

As the poll, probably hoplite

Well the Cree aren't out yet so we can't really properly evaluate the scout.

I do agree it's pretty lackluster though considering most people only build one scout if that and their UU costs even more production early than a regular scout. The early promotion will let you catch up to the other scouts that already exist I guess...

the varu and the French unit should probably also be on a list of weak units

Yeah but it does not upgrade to knights so then it has a lull period. Perhaps not as weak as some of the others on the list for sure

Varu is a strong unit. 45 Strength classical unit(40, enemy -5 is similar to self+5), without resource requirement, very strong.

I agree. I'd say their biggest weakness was that they belonged to a pacifist leader. With Chandragupta in the game, however, they can finally flex those muscles properly. A Varu charge at the beginning of a war of territorial expansion will be quite daunting to withstand.

Prepare your knight army and varu army separately.

Also, with the -5 bonus, Varu is always a helpful support unit, even in modern wars with tanks and infantry.

But it can almost stand up to knights so they'll still be very useful (and eventually upgrade to cavalry)

I think it's actually pretty overpowered.

I like the mustang. It's pretty good against enemy terrestrial (aka land/sea) units. Someone on this forum figured out one time that a Mustang can one-shot kill a battleship. which is pretty hefty imo.

Samurai/Berserker are tough, because they have to be hard-built from an awkward tech. Half the time you'll have gunpowder before you can even build one.
I agree with you. Their position in tech tree isn't in their advantage at all. I didn't took time to see if the tree will change or not, but to make them usable, it would be fine.

I do like that those unique unit don't require resource in civ 5 it was so annoying playing as rome and not having iron

I have seen quite a number of UU are missed in the list. Should you add them back? Like Egypt, India, etc.

Personally I think Grande Imperiale are by far the most useless.

I'm not willing to add R&F UUs to this poll yet. Do you all want me to add Grand Imperiale and Maryannu Chariot Archer to this list. Afraid that adding now will corrupt the poll data but then again this isn't a university research paper. Honestly I've had success with both which is why I didn't include.

They do not upgrade and they are expensive so overpowered would be to go too far. Maybe they could be second best on the worst list

Of course they should be added, if I advise. The data is omitting a lot of samples when the category "unique unit" includes more than what you listed. And pre-assuming others' experiences are same as yours will be quite a catch to any Poll.

Having success shall not be the reason since in Civ6 there's no difficulty and you can always have success.

I can use Kongo or Egypt to finish sub-150 victories, moreover, this can be done on every map, but they're still negative Civs which are worse than blank.

Yeah, I agree with this. If you want to know what people think is truly worst unit in the game, you need to just go ahead and include every UU. While I highly doubt something like the Mamluk is going to get a vote, you never know.

Added Egypt and France. Also enabled to ability to change your vote if anyone wanted to vote for one of these two.

They upgrade to tanks actually (was wrong about the cavalry). Being resourceless and being able to tango with next era units while still having use in further eras is nothing close to being worse.

Try putting them in cities later on.

It's also kinda moot to point out they don't upgrade to knights, because the varu replaces the horseman, which doesn't upgrade to knight anyways. Even if you built generic horsemen, you couldn't do that. So why would anyone expect that to happen? India still can do chariot ---> knights anyways so it's completely apples and oranges.
