web cam trouble

I wanted to install my webcam but the disc was cracked. so in the end I plugged it in and let Microsoft do it for me. it worked fine but for some reason now the picture is all wrong. the "white balance" setting is set right down to the very lowest it can go and it's faded out so I can't drag the bar up to an acceptable level.

I'm using MSN. does anyone know how I can fix it?
