Weird event, I had just enough beakers to research a new tech...

But on the next turn, I didn't have the tech and I was 7 research points short!

What could happen to change research output, between the time right before a turn ends, and the next turn begins?

or maybe I changed something without noticing...

Nope, had enough gold. Had about 21 stored away and lost 12 I think.

I can't say for sure, but I think that DaveMcW is right:

If you only had 21 left, and NOW you're at 9 (i.e. -12 for the last turn), then the game probably changed your tech rate to get you to this point; if it HADN'T switched your science%, you probably would have been -22 or worse for the turn, thus, it changed your science% so that you didn't end up with -ve gold...

Is it possible that some event between turns lowered your commerce?

- maybe international affairs affected your trade routes
- or the Governor switched some city tiles around, or he did something with specialists (took off a scientist for example)
- perhaps a city grew and hit the unhappy cap and stopped working a high-commerce tile as a result

or any other number of tiny events...

Nope, wast at 22 with -13 per turn for I think. I'm POSITIVE I wasn't losing more than 22, and if that was the case my gold right now would be 22+ instead of 12 or so.

All my cities were on manual so I know a city tile wasn't switched.
No happiness issues for sure, no cities grew.
Perhaps trade had something to do with it.

Lost a specialist? Switched around tiles? Lost a trade route?

Small fluctuations happen all the time. I've seen tiles get switched even when the auto governor is off.

Hello Levgre,

By chance, did you choose to build a settler or worker that turn? Or did you build a settler or worker that turn? Because Settlers and Workers use food as production, it is possible that once you built the settler or chose to build the settler the game auto-moved tiles around to a point where it was more beneficial to your city, but maybe less beneficial to your civilization.

Were any cities starving? I know sometimes I get the 'odd' food, where a city goes up to it's max, then drops down a population point, constantly wavering back and forth between two population points. A single scientist specialist can put out 6 beakers per turn with representation. I think this number is before any +science bonuses in the city (library +25%, university +25%, academy +50%.)

Were any buildings destroyed? If you lost a library, uni, etc. in a high science city, you might have lost plenty of beakers.

Was a forest cleared? It is possible that the computer autogovernered from one tile to another, lowering your commerce.

Were there any barbarians or any other enemies present? You cannot work on a tile currently occupied by enemies.

Hmm, what else could have caused an auto-drop in research?

in BtS my cities changed tiles even when they're set to manual. drive me up a tree!! happens even during a turn, before i press enter, when workers are done making an improvement. and i swear i don't use the city governor grrrrrrrrr. i don't trust that guy. that's supposedly gone since the patch, and i think it is better now. have you patched?

even since the patch, i see weirdness when i change the slider. it'll say +120 gpt for the new rate at first and then it'll quick change to +123, stuff like that. i don't think that's a lag in math, it may be tweaking a tile or a specialist just based on moving the slider, but i haven't ever checked every city to be sure. but something freaky is going on there.

Hello KMadCandy,

I've seen my gpt vary as much as 20 or so each turn, and not when I'm whipping people! Though this is very late into the game, it does happen.

Oh, Levgre,

I had one more thought. What if you had a traderoute with a large capital city of another empire, and that city had a slave revolt? That could easily knock you down a few commerce points.

i mean i change the slider, it shows one number, then after 2/1000s of a second or something it shows a slightly different number. i haven't had a chance to whip anybody or even go into a city screen. what is up with that? :crazyeye: right now it's happening but yeah it's late game. i don't know if it's only late game, hmmz.
