Weird mouse navigation

Decided to install and play this game again, but the map navigation is not what I remember it to be.
Basically, the only way to move around the map is to left click on the exact spot I want to go to.
I seem to remeber that I should also be able to left click and drag in the direction I want, but this moves me in the opposite direction!
Anyone knows how to fix this (or is my memory way off?)?

Running win7, tried compability mode.

Are you displaying the game as full screen or in a window?

If full screen, whenever the mouse moves to the edge of the screen, the screen will scroll in that direction. That does not happen in windowed mode.

You can center the screen on whichever unit is current by pressing "C". You can jump from displayed area to another area by clicking the desired spot on the mini-map in the right lower corner. Both of these methods work in both display modes.
