weird sound issue

Ok i have been playing for 2 weeks without a hitch, I just started a new game, and my units no longer talk to me. I have checked the sound options- everything is turned on, but speech is gone.
The music which was playing when talking to other leaders is also gone, but all other sounds are there (ambient, soundtrack, combat etc)

any ideas???

ok problem solved
its one of those glitches when interface controls suddenly disappear (happens occasionally)

the solution was to turn OFF all sound options individually, exit options menu, go back in and turn them on again - all sounds returned
